Two warm up

Introducing Azura - the first track from my new record on @noire_x_blanche, featuring the talents of @the_persian_diversion on drums.

I’ve been quiet for a while. Some reasons for this are pretty apparent, others I’ll be able to make clear soon.

The record is made up of five tracks - my usual mixture of off-the-cuff moments of inspiration sat aside projects which have shape-shifted multiple times over the last 5 years.

Inspired by the following in no meaningful order:

Post-Covid Catford, returning north, the redemption arc of Joelinton, orchestral video game soundtracks, golden teachers, ~scape records, early 00s chillout compilations with bubbles on the cover, teaching myself piano, my girlfriend @laurenmarie.23 and the loss of our beloved Juno, now forever immortalised on the cover by @niall_greaves.

The versatility of On-U Sound shines in this generous mix from the label crew, “90 minutes of deep cuts, lost classics and non-label Sherwood productions, recorded using two turntables and a stack of original vinyl.” There’s the classic fluttering horns, hot sticky bass and guitars, from the likes of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Dub Syndicate, and then there’s the leftfield grooves of African Head Charge with whirring, rattling, thunking drums and percussion, the drilling industrial soundscape of Mark Stewart & The Maffia. Sitting in between are the psychedelic jazz dub fusions of Playgroup with slick dextrous bassline and ricocheting drums, the reggae inflected synth funk of Shara Nelson, and Little Annie’s sensual spoken word drowning in idiosyncratic desire.

Bleep Mix #307 - On-U Sound

We are pleased to welcome Warren Harris aka Hanna for the Short Attention Mix 048. Even though this live set runs just 25 minutes, it is packed with energy and feeling. Short, direct, and special — a snapshot of Hanna’s sound in the moment.

Warren Harris, better known as Hanna, is a producer and multi-instrumentalist from Cleveland, Ohio. His music blends deep house, techno, and drum ’n’ bass with strong jazz influences, often using live instruments like guitar, bass, flute, and keys. Over the years he has released albums such as Severance, Scarlet Manifesto, Amen, and Contemplating Jazz, as well as many singles and EPs. He also teamed up with Dan Curtin under the project Key of Soul. Hanna is known for his deep, soulful, and textured sound that goes beyond standard dance-floor formulas.

In Warren Harris words:

"Blijvend means to continue or continuum or everlasting (the language Vlaams or Flemish)


Blijvend is actually a song that I made in real-time in my studio, even played live it cannot be re-created or played the same way twice.

I created an ambient loop of music that is swimming or floating out of one sampler (acting as turntable 1) 120 BPM

I created drum motifs on another machine (acting as turntable 2) 130 BPM

I dj'd the motifs randomly in real-time while the loop is floating or swimming (of course I am filtering and performing this all in real-time)

The drums are not synced to the swimming loop...ever
It's a one-time moment in time experience I captured

- Hey Leif, how’s it going? What’s been happening lately?
Hey, I'm good thanks - enjoying spending some time focusing on producing / mixing again after a bit of a break! There are a few things on the horizon including some new material and some radio shows this winter.

- Tell us a bit about this mix - what was your idea or direction behind it?
It was a chance to weave together a few dreamy slow burners around the 100bpm mark I've been really enjoying recently, and feature some fresh bits from Duckett and others along the way.

- ⁠Are there any tracks or moments in the mix that feel extra special or defining to you? 
'Pick a Headline' - one I made together with Duckett will always feel like a special track - it's a few years old now but still brings serenity every time I listen.
