Drumcode treasures Alan Fitzpatrick and Joel Mull link for their debut collaboration, complemented by a rare Adam Beyer remix. This is special in every sense

Tis the season for something different; interesting collaborations and the broadening of creative boundaries is the order of the day. Long-time friends and techno colleagues Alan Fitzpatrick and Joel Mull are the latest to connect for a fresh production outing, ‘We Don’t Know Anything Yet’. Inspired by the Buddhist saying ‘Nothing is forever except change’, the duo work alongside Swedish band Frangie to craft an ascendent techno cut that explores existential questions about the future, all the while being propelled by a strong rhythmic underbelly.

Beyer’s first remix in two years is inspired. The boss sharpens his focus on the vocal, while teasing out the melody, ripening the track for a mid-morning post-peak-time moment when the sun starts to bathe the dancefloor is a hazy gentle glow. A masterstroke.

A rising German talent steps up for his Drumcode EP debut.

We got the first taste of Thomas Hoffknecht’s gritty Detroit-inspired sound in 2020, with ‘Code-1’ and ‘Escaping’, both impressive contributions to the recent A-Sides compilations. In a year with few highlights, the producer’s induction into the Drumcode fold marked a distinct positive.

Inspired by visits to the Planetarium in his hometown of Hamburg, Hoffknecht’s ‘Antaris’ EP is an immersive five-track work that charts the breadth of his raw, yet captivating style. The title track is driven by a catchy organ-driven riff and marching percussion and is awash with atmospheric intensity. ‘Comet’ is propelled by energetic stabs and shuffling beats. ‘Sirius’ makes its mark with a shimmering synth-line and spoken word vocal, which adds to the track’s dream-like texture. ‘Wega’ is a low-end rattler that comes up for air thanks to a piercing vox sample that smacks of ‘90s rave flavour. ‘Regulus’ is cosmic techno at its finest, as swirls of intergalactic melody radiate a halcyon spirit.

Part of the new brigade of artists making their mark on the label, Veerus lands his fifth release in two years on Drumcode.

With a pair of EPs and numerous contributions to the coveted A-Sides compilation under his belt since his debut in 2018, Veerus has established himself as a talented go-to producer for Adam Beyer; from his stirring cut ‘Hypnosis’ that highlighted the Drumcode founder’s Cercle performance, to the killer ‘System’ that provided an early 2020 moment for the label. His consistent vein of form will result in a coveted spot at Drumcode Festival Malta 2021 in September.

‘Recovery’ continues the Italian’s talent for crafting powerful melody-led techno projections. The title track is an ace. What begins as a smoky atmospheric cut is quickly elevated to beast status as intergalactic robot stabs shatter the mist, while an acid-underbelly adds to the mood. ‘Dysfunction’ brims with a distinct 90s synth aesthetic, propelled by a crisp and classy bottom end.

'German producer Nicone certainly has a heavy bag of experience in a music world starting from the far 2008.Releasing on Stil Vor Talent, Kompakt, KATERMUKKE, Hive Audio and the own Dantze imprint, Nicone remains to be unconnected to any certain style when it comes to his music output.'Just Breathe' which is done Enda Gallery is a lyric and touching deep house track: classy piano chords together with the calm vocals from Enda gave us enough emotions to expand it to few more remixes.We meet Niko Schwind for the first remix with dark and influenced rework, playing with harmonies and the acid-enveloping bass sounds.The duo of Berlin-based producers Prismode & Solvane brings the classy deep house notes on their version, closing this release in the pack.Happy to welcome all these great German producers on board.Enjoy the chalice, drink slow, dance how you like.Elusive. Tim Engelhardt's 2020 album 'Idiosynkrasia' felt cinematic in form and orchestral in structure, catalysing deep breaths, reflection and a different way of thinking by way of its genre-bending narrative. Now, some of the long-players most precious and tender moments get reinterpreted by a stellar cast of artists, no doubt with the intimate physicality of dancing bodies in mind. The result is a killer package of three versatile cuts that, while each setting a contrast to their source material, amplify different sides of a feeling Tim's work naturally encapsulated – the flow-state. 

Melodic luminary Rodriguez Jr. reimagines the album's introspective opener 'Attached' as a progressive masterclass of deeply engulfing bass, gently cascading synths and hopeful piano variations, showcasing his one-of-a-kind grasp of subtle euphoria. In andhim's hands, the title-track 'Idiosynkrasia' then gets the b-boy treatment as the duo beef-up the original's breakbeat-driven lowend and flip Tim's idiosyncratic melodies on their head by adding a healthy dose of funk. Last but not least, Sam Shure strips 'Touch the Sky' of its organic feel, expertly rethreading Hannah Noelle's stunning vocals into a pressure-cooker of a club track.
