The Academy is the label’s renowned educational arm, which over the past 5 years has been innovating electronic music education by breaking down the barriers between new artists and the music industry. 

As a driving force in Electronic Music education, we are proud to state that our ‘Leaders Of The New School’ album series is one of the hottest platforms to showcase some of the incredible talents rising through the Academy. Last weekend my girlfriend and I flew all the way to Berlin only to be told "Nicht Willkommen" at the door of Berghain. I guess we just weren't Techno enough. As a consolation I decided to record my idea of a good night out, a selection of the finest banging techno and acid, old and new. Some of the mixing is a bit rough and the flow might not be that smooth in places but this is very much a "don't give a fuck" mix, and it gets pretty relentless towards the end. If anyone wants to pass it on to Sven the Berghain doorman, be my guest.

I always love a challenge, so when Esso asked me to create a piece of music using the sounds from Aston Martin Red Bull Racing's Honda Formula 1(tm) engine, being a massive petrol head, of course I jumped at the chance!
    
As a music producer I like to approach each and every project with its own individual merit.
    
Drawing inspiration from THE most iconic piece of music associated with British motor sport I used the harmonics from this race-winning engine to create the melody for my interpretation of the sound of F1.

NIAC (Steve Fabry) is a multi-instrumentalist born on the 29th of April 1985 in Verviers, Belgium. 

Coming from a musical background and family, his first encounters with music came at the age of 6, when he started learning how to play the drums. Piano lessons followed and then guitar, before starting to learn the violin. He falls in love with the bass guitar soon after and joins his first band at fifteen. 

During the following years he plays in twenty bands and tries Black Metal for the first time with the band Ooirim. Soon after that he creates his own black metal band (Sercati) with his friend Yannick Martin on drums as well as a side project named The Nightstalker.

Steve has got a serious passion for movies and everything John Carpenter, whose music he discovers with 'Escape From New York' and so he starts his horrosynth band NIAC along with Simon Charlier on guitar and long time friend Yannick Martin on drums. Influenced originally by Carpenter's works his debut NIAC album 'Neo-Pandemonium' is a mix of melodic with minimal yet very atmospheric darksynth/horrorsynth which explodes to heavier parts often creating a feel reminiscent of post-rock and even doom metal.

‘T2’ marks the return of Toolroom’s collaboration concept album. 

‘T1’, released back in October 2015, was an album of new and exciting collabs from Toolroom’s roster at the time; celebrating our artists’ talents and challenging them creatively.  

At the height of lockdown in 2020, with our artists in isolation across the world, it felt like a good opportunity to bring back the series - and also help raise money for Covid-19 relief funds, with a percentage of profits going to charity. 

This time, we picked the collaborations totally at random. Drawn out of a hat by Mark Knight on a Facebook Live broadcast, 36 artists were paired up into 18 new studio partnerships.  Pairings like Amine Edge & DANCE and Maxinne; Alex Preston and Siege; Mat.Joe and Ben Remember; and Juliet Sikora and KC Lights, have resulted in the fusion of different styles, influences and ultimately an album of fresh and essential exclusive tracks. 

‘T2’ features 18 brand new tracks, with some out-of-the-box experiments and sure-fire bangers. Testament to the power of creation in isolation, and the unexpected magic of new collaborating artists at the top of their game.
