DEEP XXXIX [RÜFÜS DU SOL, M83, Tim Engelhardt, Adriatique, Andhim & more]

After 10 years of making, the first single "Mama" from my album named Mylène is out. Releasing on July 14th—my mom's birthday. I've always wanted to release the full album on this day, but the main theme of my album has been learning to let go. I decided that the amount of work I've put into this album needs to get the attention it deserves, so I will release singles almost every week until the final full album releases on October 14th.

The first song, Mama, is sung by me in my native language, Dutch. It is a deeply personal song, which tells a very direct story of my grief. The lyrics came after I found the chords, and I teared up so much when I started the track in 2021. I questioned myself all these years, what to do with this? It's in Dutch, and it's a bit different than my usual music. But then, after the whole process of finding a new way of coping with my mom's passing—letting go of the little boy inside of me who still wanted to save her by honoring her—I found out that this was the start of my healing process. Since this track is so much about that little boy who still missed her so much and couldn’t let go.

It's the only Dutch song on the album, but it's one of the purest, most emotional, and personal songs I've written.

I was happy to go through all the old VHS footage of me and her and to make this video clip together with my good friend Boudewijn Grammer, who shot the scenes in the sea with me singing.

My mom wrote a lot of diaries, I have a suitcase full of them and decided to read them in 2022. After a day full of reading i went to the studio and made this track. I expected to make something emotional, deep. But I made something very uplifting. It was only afterwards that I realized that reading her diaries made me feel so loved, my mom would write so many details about me. Reading a diary gives you so much more than seeing a picture, it gave me a look into her heart and mind. I could feel the love she had for me so much. "The Boy Full Of Melodies" is the translation of this love. In fact, it's a story of self-love.

I hope you’re having a nice and cozy beginning of autumn. 

This month’s episode is inspired by my trip to Chicago at the end of summer. I only spent two days there, but they were truly some of the best in my life. I saw Eric Prydz, Cristoph, and Frank Bono, unforgettable moments. Even more special was finally meeting so many people I had known online for years. It felt like almost the entire Pryda community gathered in one place.

Eric Prydz has been my biggest inspiration since I first discovered his music back in 2011, a direct shot to my soul. Because of him, I’ve met so many talented and kind people, many of whom I can now call real friends. Honestly, I don’t know who I’d be without his influence and his music. It’s the reason I started making music myself, and why I’m so obsessed with what I do. Someday, I hope to stand in front of a big crowd and share this passion.

Today’s episode is dedicated to our community. You’ll hear plenty of IDs from familiar names like Austin Pettit, Seizmic, and Connor Martin, along with released tracks from Mitch Kay and MadLine. Three tracks in this set were written right after I came back from Chicago, so they carry that energy directly.
