I decided to test drive Enso Looper, which I bought a while ago but never properly used. So as in a proper test drive, I (briefly) consulted the manual, took the wheel, hit the gas pedal (record) and went for it. No change of course or second takes allowed. After this test drive I still don’t properly understand how Enso should be used - but something came out of it. Next step (maybe): read the manual again.

Today I tested and old sample library and a new one I've got to compare their sounds. I used the junto prompt as inspiration for my tests.

I'm a small time alchemist, so I didn't went too far into the transformation. I just wrote a simple piano piece, I submerged the piano piece into some some string orchestra as a potion (a plugin called Fragile String Evolutions) and you can hear the piano piece already evolving. Then the theme is played one last time on some distant, noisy string quartet and low strings (from Cinesamples' Quatre Harmonics).
There's some sort of hi pitched pump organ, that's a mistake (I forgot to mute a test track) , I decided to keep it there in the background.

Border(disquiet0413)

At the end of 2018, I bought an Empress Reverb box.  It was $449.  I have used it constantly throughout 2019.  I can't imagine ever getting rid of it.

Why the Empress Reverb?  There are no menus.  I can't stand menus.  This thing, you just turn a knob and then you turn some other knobs.  Then listen.  It just makes everything more beautiful.  Even something like "reverse", which I have almost never used in a DAW because it's so obvious and cheesy, transforms the audio spectacularly with the right combination of the various knobs.

"Process Opaque" is a recent creation, released under my alter ego Ambient Matyk.  I don't know what setting this was.  I don't keep notes.

I've been kicking around the idea of buying the Empress Echosystem (also $449) and using the two together.  I might wait to buy that in mid-2020.  No hurry.  I'm having too much fun with the Reverb for now.

Process Opaque (disquiet0413)

The instrument I chose as thankful for is my Fender acoustic guitar. Not exactly the most expensive guitar I've owned, but I get a lot of enjoyment playing it.
The piece is something I've been playing for years and never had a title for. Never recorded it before, it has just been something to play. I recorded with a combination of the guitar's pickup, an SM57 and an Aston Origin --- a mic I really like the sound of, even though it slightly picks up a radio station. (and no, it is not the mic cable or interface. Ugh.) Then a little eq on each track, and Ozone 8 on the master bus.

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.

And since 1996 I've run the website Disquiet.com about the intersection of sound, art, and technology.
