Julian Kruse - These Roads

Tiësto, recently named "Greatest DJ of All-Time" by Mixmag, combines forces with fellow Dutchman and fast rising star, Hardwell.  Their collaboration here on "Zero 76" is a monumental production, fusing each artists' style to create an early contender for tune of 2011.

Tiësto and Hardwell both hail from Breda, Netherlands and the title Zero 76 is a nod to their home town's area code.  Hardwell explains, "Being born and raised in Breda, Tiësto's hometown, I always felt a certain pride when others mentioned his name.  When meeting him for the first time, last year in Ibiza, we had an instant click that lead to this cooperation."

 

As if their country couldn't be any more proud of them, this co-production is as big as it gets. As if ‘Ocarina’ couldn’t get any better, today Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike announce the vocal version of their huge international smash, with none other than UK chantreuse Katy B on vocals.

Katy, who won the 2012 NME ‘Dancefloor Anthem’ Award for ‘Broken Record’ and has released a raft of hits from chart-topping album ‘One A Mission’, is widely known for collaborating with EDM producers including Magnetic Man, Geeneus and Zinc. Now she lends her distinctive voice to ‘Ocarina’, taking one of Dimitri & Mike’s most popular tracks to a whole new level.

The track, which was a co-production with Smash The House protégés Wolfpack and was the inaugural TomorrowWorld Anthem, topping the Beatport Top 100, has been a massive fan favourite since it featured on the 2012 Tomorrowland After Movie soundtrack. With the original edit shooting straight to the #1 position in a matter of days, it now remains to be seen if having Katy B on the vocal mix will give the brothers the massive cross-over mainstream hit that seems increasingly on the cards. We sometimes forget that music is cyclical. As a new generation of clubbers discover sounds for the first time, they mistakenly believe the decades old genres are somehow a new phenomenon. The styles we attach to the terms techno, trance, progressive, and house are moving targets at best — words that are now redefined on an almost weekly basis.

Cycles is Max Graham's "Yearly Snapshot" of his own musical journey, a collection representing the natural progression in his taste. As always with Cycles, the elements of melody shine through this classically mixed compilation (like Graham's own 'Redemption' and his remix of Solid Stone and Jennifer Rene's haunting vocal tune 'Not Enough'), but much like his successful career over so many years, the mix takes a wide arc of influence as it moves from Tim Penner's lovely piano opening to Alex Di Stefano's tough as nails 'Black Panther' and back down to a perfectly fitting closing track by Gai Barone entitled 'Psycles' (written exclusively for this mix).

Solid Stone, a mainstay in Graham's set list, has no less than three unreleased tracks. Also making two appearances is rising star Thomas Vink whose production style effortlessly combines organic Techno beats with beautiful melody and emotion. From Guy J's progressive label Lost n Found to Techno's Drumcode and Yin Yang, 'Cycles' once again celebrates all that's good on that dance floor regardless of genre.

Like Cycles Radio this compilation showcases the ongoing diversity and evolution in Graham's sound, it's the closest representation to what you'll feel at a 6+ hour Open to Close set condensed into 78 minutes of well- constructed bliss. As the musical landscape changes we welcome this, the 6th revolution of Cycles and are eager to see where the pioneer heads next.
