If you haven't played Lisa: The Painful rpg by Dingaling aka Austin Jorgensen aka Widdly2Diddly then please drop what you're doing and immediately buy the game on steam. I suggest getting the expansion (The Joyful, which is a must have) and the soundtrack (another big big must have). The soundtrack is incredible, innovative, bad-ass and funky. A couple of tracks are only featured in game so I mixed and mashed some of that together for a fun/joyful/painful/daneful EP. Enjoy!

Personally, I think this version is loads better than the lazy approach Nintendo took to it.  If you listen closely, you will realize that their version is actually polyphonic (the notes overlap for about point one seconds), as if the game uses a kind of MIDI like SoundFont.  In fact, that might honestly be the case, what with how changing from the modern to the eight bit version of the same song in the soundtrack menu audibly turns on the eight bit and fades that out instead of fading out the modern one and then playing the classic variant, and even vice versa!
