BOOMBOX emerged from electronic music, not as a concept, but as a consequence.
It was born during nights when time was irrelevant – between record crates, basement rooms and clubs of light and shadow.
A project by Markus Funke, deeply rooted in a culture that never had to loudly explain why it exists.

At its core, BOOMBOX is a space.
A place where people come together because they feel the same frequency. Artists, labels, DJs, vinyl diggers, producers and listeners who don't consume electronic music, but read it like a language. A language that connects without imposing itself.

Saturday is not a fixed date. It is a state of being.
The moment when everyday life recedes and collective energy emerges. When control slackens, when body, sound and space intertwine. When music takes over and time loses its linearity.

BOOMBOX does not follow rigid rules.
It doesn't always have to be 4 to the floor. Not every track wants to carry, not every moment wants to push.
Here, music is not thought of as functional, but as a movement between tension and silence. Vinyl is played, not played back. Sets are created in the moment, tell stories, allow breaks and mistakes – because that is precisely what makes them human.

Each broadcast opens up a deliberately created sound space.
Between club, basement, warehouse and the quiet moment with headphones. Between the dance floor and introspection. Electronic music as a continuum, not a pigeonhole.

The artists and labels that appear here are not just names on a list. They are part of the BOOMBOX cosmos.

Markus Funke DJ Set Vinyl
A special line-up with two live acts and a vinyl DJ promises fat grooves and technoid sounds on this Saturday.
Sebastian Wissen packed his favorite synths and sequencers and creates new sound structures from Deep to Acid Techno. It will be interesting to see what surprises he has for us this time.
Cie mixes and rearranges his own tracks and ideas in his live act to create a constantly changing mix of previously published and unpublished titles. Also included are his latest tracks "Wolkenburg" and his remix of Prakash' "Numbers Talk", which have just been released on the EPs "Get Together" and "Get Together Remixes" on Form & Terra Records.
Markus Funke, who is also represented on the same releases with his dubby techno monster "Levissima" and with a great remix by November Reign, plays a vinyl set. Markus looks deep into his record collection again and puts new tracks and treasures on the turntable. Let's see what he will find, it will be a compelling Techno trip again!

Boombox By Markus Funke 23.12.2020

Markus Funke grew up in the Niederrhein area and now lives in Cologne. He came into contact with electronic music early on and found the synthetic sounds fascinating as a child. In these days he listened to BFBS on Sundays and recorded the English charts on tapes every week. In secondary school he went to the youth disco on Wednesdays in the youth cellar and came into contact with sounds from Mr. Lee, Simon Harris or S-Express; there he saw the first beginnings and saw what you can do with two 1210s and a mixer. Markus still accompanies the music today and spends a lot of time in his studio and runs his own radio program at www.sonus.fm. Markus has traveled a lot through the clubs in Germany and has gained a lot of experience there, which is reflected in his vinyl only sets today. His sets show his musical range and that's why he prefers to play long sets to pick up the audience where they are and take them on a trip. Markus played in numerous locations, e.g. Fusion, Charlote, Tresor, Griesmühle, Microclub, Poision, Tor3, Elektroküche, Bunker and many more, but he believes that a good artist cannot be judged by the clubs he has played in. After a few years away from nightlife it is time again to get more active and bring the sound of his radio show to the clubs. So far, Markus Funke has released his own tracks on labels like Logisim, Psycho Thrill Records and Form&Terra Records.
