From obtuse angles to intense physicality, Peder Mannerfelt’s highly individual take on techno demands attention and consideration. While his many-sided body of work reaches back more than a decade, the Swedish producer’s current investigations in the field of experimental dance music are as prolific as they are unpredictable.

After a series of albums as Roll The Dice alongside Malcolm Pardon, he lent his production skills to Fever Ray’s acclaimed debut album and 2017’s Plunge and is currently busy exploring a new strain of techno-pop together with Pär Grindvik as Aasthma.

Working under his own name Mannerfelt’s sonic imprint can be most acutely felt. Accompanying  appearances on Voam, Hinge Finger, Numbers and more, he established his own label Peder Mannerfelt Produktions to carry the bulk of his output, and that of kindred spirits such as Klara Lewis, Code Walk and Sissel Wincent.

Peder Mannerfelt music is always rooted in the kinetic energy of techno even as it seeks to break down the genre’s rigid, illusory formulae.

Si bien su variada obra se remonta a más de una década, las investigaciones actuales del productor sueco en el campo de la música de baile experimental son tan prolíficas como impredecibles.

To celebrate this turning point, we are proud and delighted to host such an iconic figure from the Berlin Techno scene. Starting his DJ career in the late 80’s, DJ Pete is a pioneer in all meanings of the word as he is the longest serving staff member of the legendary record store Hardwax and one of the earliest residents of Berghain.

As a producer, DJ Pete is known under his alias Substance, with a back catalogue of highly influential solo efforts released on the mighty Chain reaction imprint, and an impressive string of acclaimed remixes for pivotal Techno artists like Juan Atkins, Regis, Kessell, Orphx, Robert Hood, Rhythm & Sound, Monolake or Shed…

The Berlin legend finely highlights his impressive and wide knowledge of music in this contribution and manage to merge in one piece all the shades of Techno we offered so far in the series. Hats off!

PARADOX PODCAST #100 -- DJ PETE

Radial is the techno moniker of Jeroen Liebregts from The Netherlands. Jeroen has been dj'ing since around '98 and picked up music production soon after. Since 2002 Jeroen teamed up with Bas Mooy and started the label Audio Assault as a platform for their own work and that of artists whose work they admire. About a year later sublabel Arms was born. In 2014 his own brand new imprint Radial Records sees the light of day with the release of Crux, the second full length Radial album.

Always driven to dive deeper Jeroen started a 4-year studies of Sonology at the Conservatory in The Hague, which he finished in 2006. This study deals with electronic music composition, computer programming, analog synthesis and electronic instrument design among other things. This is probably what kickstarted his interest to use self designed instruments in his music. The constant quest for new technological approaches is an imported factor that helped shape his sound. His current tendency toward analog hardware based methods also resulted in his involvement in the design and development of the Synton Fenix modular synthesizer.

Over the years the music of Jeroen Liebregts has found it's way to many places using different aliases (Radial, Museum, Finder, Sinecure). There have been releases of original tracks and remixes on labels such as Token, Perc Trax, Mote-Evolver, Numb, Drumcode, Planet Rhythm, Dole-Gate and most recently Mord and Soweso.

My setup this night was an Allen & Heath Xone 96, two Technics 1210 MKII and four CDJs 2000 NX2, additional I brought my Strymon Big Sky reverb and my beloved Redsound Soundbite Pro.

I wanted to keep it in a radio show format, as this is the format I grew up with and this was how I’ve discovered music. Also I wanted to do something different as I have a pretty wide range in music which I like. I get influenced by so many things so I thought it might be interesting for you to take this platform as the concept for a podcast. I will dig deeper and deeper through my collection of records and present it to you each month. It doesn’t matter how new or old the music is, it’s just about creating a good vibe to listen to, to enter another dimension.

Moreover the idea is also to invite guests, in irregular intervals - people I respect for what they are doing music wise and for the culture.
