Reduced is a new series that strips sound back to its most transcendental, restorative and atmospheric textures to block out the noise and aid focus, attunement and relaxation. Each one will be paired with a mental health charity and be accompanied by an interview focussed on self-care. The combination of all three will create an evolving resource of knowledge and experience that provides solace, inspiration, reassurance and company in difficult times.

Abby Lee Tee (Fabian Holzinger, b. 1987) is an Austrian producer and DJ whom we once described as being more playful than an otter. His ever-evolving solo material has drawn on a wide range of influences from beat tapes to ambient, utilizing field recordings and unusual instruments. Abby Lee Tee’s work has shown up recently in Giovanni Lami‘s Tapeocracy mix as well as the Dinzu episode of the Sound Propositions podcast. He has produced a bunch of Guest mixes over the years, including Cold Spell Days & Hesitant Yearlings around this time two years ago.  We’re very pleased to share his second mix for ACL, young frogs & golden lakes. His first mix was "a laid back mix of beats and ambient sound composed while overcoming a cold during the recent transition to Spring," so this is the perfect moment for a sequel. Enjoy!

Abby Lee Tee presents 'young frogs & golden lakes' [mix]

Lily Ackerman’s mix for arch guides the listener through a wide range of human emotions, starting with a quiet and pleasantly naive intro before a dark and dramatic mid-section takes hold. Relief arrives with a fantasy journey through a jungle-like natural landscape, evoking an extravagant and euphoric state. 

The mix concludes with the calming sounds of everyday human life and nature, in the form of three field recordings, from places that hold meaning to Lily: Berlin, her current home, Vietnam, where her mother was born, and San Francisco, the last American city she lived in.

Lara Sarkissian is a sound artist, electronic composer, DJ and filmmaker born and based in San Francisco, CA. Sarkissian is co-founder of CLUB CHAI; a record label and curatorial project that artistically hybridized non western sonic and visual worlds among contemporary western culture. 
Sarkissian’s electronic music weaves dance and ambient along with Armenian instrumentation in experimental approaches. She regularly scores for installation and video and hosts shows on NTS radio.

In the 16th episode of the #Sonogramma podcast dedicated to ambient and experimental music from the @ssi-records label, the curator of the podcast, Ilia @symphocat, presents the mix that includes meditative compositions by the Moscow-based project 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐈𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲.

On the path of creative research, the musical project July in January constantly returns to the enveloping form of melancholic memories and sentimental moods, exploring their personal anxious experiences and states. The track called "This night I met Gianluigi Gasparetti", which is the main motive of the podcast, was recorded by the author in one night in the long improvise session. The created musical structure is dedicated to the legendary Gianluigi Gasparetti (Oöphoi), who became, for July In January, a pioneer in Drone music and had a great influence on sound thinking. Also in the podcast there are several tracks from the album "In Memory for Everyone Who Disappeared" released early on SSI label and which was recorded in live improvisational sessions during pandemic 2020.
