Piney's new song "Puppy Love" has a double meaning.  On the one hand, it harks back to simpler times when crushes were sincere, uncomplicated and hurt so good.  When spin-the-bottle was kinda scary and she's left wondering "Does he know I exist?"  The pain and obsession that comes with first love is glibly referred to as 'Puppy Love.'  On the other hand 'The Black Dog' is a common metaphor for depression.  Equally all-consuming and crushing in its own way, depression seems to have free will and takes you on the journey that it wants to take you on "all he wants to do is walk about" sings Piney about that little black dog.  Piney's new album has strong threads and themes about mental health, because "it's time we talk about it!  It's shame that makes it shameful, everyone feels the darkness sometimes, so I'm singing about it." she says.  "It's a thin line between Puppy Love and The Black Dog; both can be all consuming and agonising."  Piney is pictured here with her dog Raleigh who she took to a suburban Kansas City mall for a family portrait sometime in the late 90's (RIP Raleigh).
