Water wraps around the planet, pulsating with the rhythms of the moon. The oceans hold the frequency of Gaia, tuned by whale songs. These waters are homes to infinite ecosystems brimming with life and marine culture unexplored by human kind. We understand so little about the sentience, and intelligence of water. 

Water is life force, revered by indigenous cultures around the world throughout history. In Bali, Indonesia the first religion was Agama Tirta, which is the worshipping of water. There are hundreds of water temples around the small island, where locals still visit daily with offerings of incense, fruit and snacks. In Hawaii, water is such seen as so valuable, that the Hawaiian word Wai also means wealth. 

When I first heard of working with the waters, my life changed. I began to distribute water from one sacred source in the world, to another. Logically, it didn’t make sense, but Spiritually my world was responding and evolving. 

The more I worked with water, the closer I came to others who also understood the sentience and healing powers of water. My confidence grew and the practice developed. 

This song is a lighthouse, to draw attention to the healing of water. My prayer is that we transform environmental conversations from preventing water pollution and waste into an awareness of how to communicate with and honor the rights of water as an equal, sentient being. 

If you would like to begin working with water, a simple phrase you can say aloud or in your mind when in the shower, swimming or drinking water is, “May I heal the water, and the water heal me.”

Now for some positive developments…

Protected Ocean Zones:
    * Over 18,000 areas, encompassing 8% of the ocean, are now designated as marine protected areas (MPAs).
    * Palau leads with an impressive 75% of its waters classified as highly-protected MPAs.
    * Initiatives like PADI AWARE's Adopt the Blue program contribute to creating more MPAs.
    * The collective aim is to safeguard 30% of the ocean by 2030.

Global Ocean Treaty:
    * A significant breakthrough occurred in March 2023 with the agreement of a historic United Nations treaty dedicated to protecting international waters.
    * Prior to this treaty, only 1% of the expansive high seas enjoyed any form of protection.
    * The treaty seeks to establish marine protected areas in international waters, limiting certain human activities and safeguarding specific marine life.

Global Conservation Pledge:
    * In December 2022, a historic commitment was made during the COP15 (Convention on Biological Diversity) as more than 190 countries pledged to protect 30% of both land and ocean by 2030.
    * This commitment represents one of the most substantial global conservation efforts ever undertaken.

Whale Population Recovery:
    * After facing severe threats during the 20th century, humpback whales and other whale species have shown signs of recovery.
    * Following commercial whaling bans, the humpback whale population rebounded from an estimated low of 5,000 individuals to around 135,000.
    * Recognizing this recovery, humpback whales were removed from the endangered species list in 2022.

Coral Reef Restoration:
    * Initiatives such as I.CARE in the USA, Coral Gardeners in French Polynesia, and Coral Vita in the Bahamas are actively engaged in regrowing and restoring damaged coral reefs.
    * These projects focus on cultivating new coral, stabilizing existing populations, and educating local communities on the importance of coral reefs.

Enhanced Protection for Sharks and Rays:
    * At the 19th CITES conference, there was a significant increase in the level of protection for internationally traded sharks and rays.
    * Approximately 90% of species, up from 20%, are now subject to stricter regulations.

Below the surface of the earth’s skin, rumbles and crumbles, ash gas and matter, turn molten, burst laughter, searing through with cracks of red, feel the heat of running spread, lava pour, quick pour slow, lava harden, rock to stone.

Once upon a time, there was a voice- the voice of the Earth. She expressed herself through the elements, her waters sang, her winds danced, her lavas poured and soils and stone sat with the patience of a Buddhist monk. The Spirit of the Earth came alive every day and every night.

The Earth, our original witness and support, has a story. She gives, holds, feels, thinks in a non-centralized way and is comprised of a perfectly balanced ecosystem. By reconnecting with the land, we will remember that we are just one mammal among many and our well-being is intricately linked to nature.
