 I started playing a song on the acoustic guitar. I realized as I was playing, I was writing it for brother Tommy. I was wondering when and if it would ever come. I woke up one morning and there it was. Cellist Phillip Peterson just recorded the most beautiful part last week making this song complete..




Tommy Kollman, the brother of Jeff Kollman and former drummer for Edwin Dare had passed away Dec 15th, 2012 after he was shot by a Lee County Deputy multiple times. The deputy fired 15 shots. There were no witnesses. The deputy said he was armed with an AK 47. Tommy was shot in the drivers seat of his Jeep and never fired a round. The sherrifs dept. said he had a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine. The autopsy report showed there were no drugs found in his system. The investigation has been turned over to the Florida State attorney's office. Kollman states "Not only did we spend every day together for 30+ years , much of it was spend playing writing , recording and touring". It's hard enough to lose your only sibling, and then to think about that musical bond that we had just blows my mind. Kollman has written many songs out of inspiration of the passing of others including the title track off his latest solo release 'Silence In The Corridor' a tribute to Gary Moore. Kollman's track 'Time And The Inevitable' was inspired the day Apple's Steve Jobs had passed. Kollman also wrote a beautiful ballad "A Song For James" a tribute to producer, engineer James Murray who died in 2011 in a motor cycle accident. Kollman states "Music is such a powerful thing. I find the writing process to be a very healing gift. Music is more important in our society than we can ever realize. Our society takes it for granted. Music is in the air we breath. The sudden passing of my brother Tommy is just another reminder of how short and precious life is. To quote Jimi Hendrix " The story of life is quicker than the wink of an eye".

'A Healing Prayer' is dedicated to the memory of Megan K. Madaffer and her loving mother Jan who has endured the immeasurable pain of losing her only child Jan. 24th 2014.

 When I had received the email of the tragic news, I wanted to reply to Jan but I kept putting it off because I just couldn't find the words to say. There is possibly no worse pain than a parent losing their child. This was Jan's ONLY child. 
I was sitting in the studio a few weeks later thinking of Jan and it inspired this song. These are my words to Jan and Megan.

Much of this song was written about my brother Tommy in the first person in 2010. I guess I saw it coming from somewhere hidden in my Sub-conscience.
I never explained to Tommy that the lyric was him crying out for help. When I saw him and spent time a few months later, I was relieved to find that he only had a drinking problem.  I just was reading and realizing how accurate it pertains to Tommy's death. .  1964-2012 R.I.P. Tommy Kollman
