Highway Killer

We all don't know. And we spend a lot of time thinking about it.
It's important to appreciate the life we have and make the most of it. It's important how we use our time to make sure we live the life we want.

I thank my fellow musicians, especially Marquis, who always takes a look at my quirky projects. This time he even wrote a foreword - I'm grateful for that, after we set the theme.
Furthermore I thank Fabi for his wonderful guitars and Malu for a cool singing session.

"My wife and I had just finished creating our “Death Docs” when bitzone reached out and asked if I wanted to work on a new song with him. “Death Docs” are what my wife was calling all the paperwork related to our will and estate planning. When I asked Bitzone what he wanted my lyrics to be about he replied “perhaps about regulating one's own affairs for an uncertain future …” I though this was good timing since this was already on my mind. As I began writing lyrics, I started to ponder what some of my generation (and older) on our death bed would say to the younger generation that will have to live with our mistakes on this planet. I have always wanted to make a rap metal track with Heartscore so I was super excited when he reached out with this banging hip-hop metal fusion production. The lyrics are inspired behind the Hawaiian legend of Nanaue the Shark Man. I have some Hawaiian blood in me, so I figured I would rock it, lol! I am super blessed to still be working on music with my friend Heartscore. 

Massive thanks to Bitzone for coming through in the clutch with the dope vocal mix and final master. And huge thanks to Wou-Wou for the incredible song art making us look real stylish and professional!

This is a collaboration with the super talented kanadian keyboarder Jordan Davis a.k.a. tempoTronix, whom I could win for a collaboration on an older track of mine, where he took over all keyboard parts. As we both are prog metal enthusiasts we have left our traces from this genre in this track.

What's this song about Dave?

This song is in the indie-electronic domain but has a certain jazz vibe with the bass. It has a not easily defined yet original flow and feel. It speaks to our societal and work related anxieties; always asking us to do a bit more, move a bit faster. It`s been a privilege making this song with Oddrun and Dairv.

The result of this collaboration is bigger than I could wish for.
When I wrote the instrumental for the song I had a vision of life reaching for the light, like  dew in the early morning`s  that makes life sprout
With Emely`s poem, Oddrun`s crystal clear warm voice and Dairv`s intense guitar we are right where we want to be.

As Edgar Allan Poe was writing his famous poem "The Raven" , his young wife Virginia was severely ill with Tuberculosis (to which she would succumb 2 years later). The poems theme of a lonely man grieving for a lost love visited by a mysterious raven, invokes the grief that Poe experienced repeatedly during his life from the loss of close female figures, starting with his mother ( who died when he was aged two). Following the death of Virginia in 1847, Poe became increasingly unstable and died in mysterious circumstances only two years later, aged 40.

The video that accompanies this piece uses AI to animate Poe's photographic portrait while film clips show footage from a 1909 short film directed by D.W Griffith. The film is a non biographical re-imagining of events, that show Poe writing The Raven in order to buy medicines for his wife, who upon his return after successfully selling the poem to a publisher has tragically succumbed in his absence.
