The artist’s moniker pays homage to the strong-willed MARRØN’s, a once-enslaved African tribe who defied oppression and found freedom in the primeval forests of Surinam. The hypnotic, percussive beats characterizing MARRØN’s foundational Afro Deep style have evolved to form a singular conception of techno. This week we are joined by Ojo Ojo: an Amsterdam born, Moroccan DJ and co-founder of the event series Parrhesia. His passion for techno was first born on the dance floor, the main source of his inspiration as a DJ & organizer. The sobriquet Ultratoy stands for the playful and energetic moments where all that matters is energy, no thoughts, no distractions; only dancing. This relates back to his take on the genre which is mostly inspired by modern & old-school influenced grooves, fusing them with dirty vocal, tribal and trippy elements, creating a fresh and playful hybrid techno.

WINTI DANSI 

WINTI is a spiritual belief which lives under the six ndyuka tribes in Surinam. The dancers prepared their bodies with herbs and are therefore able to dance through the fire. While doing the WINTI DANSI, it is possible for the dancer to go into a trance. The WINTI DANSI is only performed on special occasions. 

This mix is recorded with a closing state of mind. Powerful rhythmic tracks which connects me to my KRAKTI (Powerful) culture. Searching for a bit more edge while keeping consistent rhythms. A bit faster than the other NDYUKA podcasts but never fast for the sake of being fast. 

Just like a WINTI DANSI i love it when people not just hear the music but really feel it. To a point where you could close your eyes and connect with the smallest details without any effort.

Chlär holds this perpetual need to learn and improve, convinced of the fundamental relationships humans share with the groove. His productions and performances are attempts to awaken the tribal and primitive instinct that sleeps in each of us. His sets are direct crowd-galvanizers, with technical and forward-thinking blends of grooves featuring loops of his own production. Always improvising through relentless 3-4 decks actions, his context sensitive approach to performances is fueled by an highly effective audience reading which will guarantee an electrifying moment, no matter the set time and duration.

He is also a mastering engineer and recently founded his own imprint Primal Instinct Rec. Chlär is sharpening his musical senses and abilities on many sides of the industry, by being an artist and
engineer but also working in A&R and Event Management, recently earning him the award of “Raver’s Choice’’ by the Raving Spoon awards.

Awakenings Podcast S300 - Chlär

Very happy to share the recording of my live set at Stone Techno Festival last summer.  Summer was full of highlights and this show was definitely one of them, with such a great energy and crowd at the stage hosted by Fuse. 

Technology will never be able to recreate a vibe on a dancefloor (I hope), but those who were there that day know it was something very special. 
Really enjoyed this one a lot.
