Sorry for the noise, I was in the middle of lowland tropical rainforest with cicadas gig on the background. Just lucky there was an old guitar (I repeat, old) as a compadre during 2-month-long field work.

Siamang counter call at Way Canguk Research Station

Two neighboring groups of siamangs were counter-calling on the boundary of their territories. Siamangs, a monogamous and strictly-territorial primate, use loud calls for territory advertisement and defense. I recorded just below these fighting groups. (They are habituated groups, named, mapped, and have been monitored for years for research).

Siamangs usually fight when there is fruiting tree in the overlapping area of their territories. They rarely have physical fight, most of the time they defend their territory using calls.

This event was quite unusual because the calls were very intense. Normally, there is a pause between calls, but seemed like they were very angry haha.
