This composition is the result of my artistic residency at Uncool in Poschiavo (Switzerland 2021).
It is a radio portrait of Poschiavo town, its surrounding mountains and glaciers. During the residency I did outdoor self-made recordings of VLF natural radios phenomena, meteor echoes, electromagnetic field and radio communication. This portrait is a part of my ongoing  project started in 2014 about creating radio portraits around the world called “The unknown beyond” .

“Voices of Stardust” was born by my romantic idea connected also to science, that human beings came from the universe as a chemical reaction. We could be made of stardust, magical cosmic elements coming from comets, because all the elements they are made of – the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, are all the things that matter for evolution. This was one year project focused on self made recordings of radio waves included VLF  from meteor echoes during different meteor storms in 2020-2021. A psychedelic hissing and crackling noise of several meteor storms is  orchestrated into a sonic opera where the singular brief echoes  it is identified as a timbre of a unique voice moving in a musical choral flow.
“Voices of Stardust ” is a reflecting, poetic, and critical thinking about the strong connection and interaction between energies from nature, the Universe, in relation to our life and society - their origin, the unpredictability of their signals, a kind of “musical-mirror “of the beginning of our existence.
This project was founded by Musikfonds & Neu Start Kulture,  Berlin.

*NOCTURNAL - Cosmic Trammel of Vital Rhythms* was commissioned by SWR2 - Heimstudio in 2021.
The piece is composed with self/made recordings of radio waves around Europa, including : morse code, air - naval - ham communication  and radio wave from the sun, self-recorded at the Astronomical Observatory Urania in Italy. 

"This composition is inspired by the apparent silence of the night, where a highly developed sense of hearing tells of the mesh of vital  cosmic connections that the night apparently hides under its silent mantle.
Imagine walking in nature on a starry night, where hidden in the dominant quietness is revealed a world of cosmic connections of vital rhythms from the atmosphere, intertwining and merging with each other, carried by electromagnetic winds traveling thousands of kilometers in indeterminate times and different directions. The discovery is a world of noise, rhythm, and secret communication."

*NOCTURNAL - Cosmic Trammel of Vital Rhythms* radiophonic piece commissioned by SWR2 *2021*

This is an Extract from the Premiere of my new solo performance "Interdimensional Generated Space", premiered in October 2022 at Panke Culture in Belin, as a part of the series (Von Antennenwäldern und Wellenozeanen) . 

A research-intensive piece focusing on the transcendental phenomenon of the Northern Lights. 
The planned performance uses the implement of self-made recordings from the Northern Lights, in combination with self-made crystal radio, plus light, detectors, and motors, to simulate a technological audio-visual version of Northern Lights in the performance space. “Interdimensional” specifically refers to the movement of energy between modes of perception. One part of this energy come from the composed mixture of “natural cosmic voices”; and another part is coming from the electromagnetic forces generated and captured in real time during the performance. The piece make full use of the contrasts of the invisible processes, to create a new experience of space, time, and human scale. 
This is an attempt to achieve a unique sonic dialogue 
between “Natural” and “Technological” world, a reflection on Nature that is imitated by technology in an anthropogenic age.

Sinking into the Dark -  it is a new long-time term project started from 2019 focus on psychoacoustics, deep thinking, involving time mutations, body motion, light, the use of self-made recordings of electromagnetic waves from the outer space coming from celestial bodies, recorded at the Astronomical Observatory of Luserna (IT), in addiction with real-time reception of high frequencies waves, radio communication, wireless with the use of a variety of antennas, some of them self-made, for a series of compositional ideas for live performance.

Marta Zapparoli is an Italian experimental sound artist, radio artist, improviser, performer, and independent researcher based in Berlin. 
In the recent years her work mainly involves the intersection of the visible and the invisible aspects of physics- seeking to activate all the poetic and conceptual levels. She capture unique recordings of electromagnetic radiation coming from the outer space, Radio Nature (VLF) and electro-smog, radio wave communication coming form the technological world. The relation-connection-dialogue between nature and our technological world  is a central theme in her work. Her main instruments are a vary of antennas,radio receivers,detectors,tape recorders,band machine. She is active in live performances, site-specific, improvisation, site 2003. She is a member of Splitter Orchester in Berlin among other projects.
