thanks to the release of their milestone full
length MEXICO (KOMPAKT 301 CD 116) and
a whirlwind tour that took them around the
globe in just under 2 months. Adored by
young and old, these influential Icelanders
are a testament to the power of how dance
music can successfully fusion with
contemporary pop music and turn it into a
perfect paradox.
We recently teamed up with Beatport to offer a
remix contest. The general public had the
opportunity to go into AIRWAVES, one of the
lead singles from their album. After going
sthrough over 500 submissions we are pleased
to present our top 3 winners alongside a remix
we commissioned ourselves by one of
Amsterdam’s most talented new additions to
the scene, TSEPO.

VALENZUELA from Chile really impressed us
with how he took the original and transformed it
into what could be a timeless house classic.
We were thrilled to learn after judging the
remixes that MARTEN SUNDBERG hails from
the home of Kompakt – Cologne! His
reanimation of AIRWAVES is an elegant roller
that will appease any romantic into techno.
Italy’s MANENT was voted by the fans as
being their favourite mix and we have to agree
– he turned the cut into a peak time roller
coaster that is fit for play in any DJ crate.

GusGus - Airwaves (Marten Sundberg Remix) [Kompakt]

The fact that Mirko Loko's released on labels like Cadenza, Desolat and Visionquest proves this is a guy packing serious talent. 

'Butterfly Effect' and 'Harder' are fine examples of his knack of producing the type of tracks that get you locked in for the entirety and his forthcoming 'Kolor' EP, again on Luciano's Cadenza, sees him deliver more cosmic and mesmerising power.

When JustKay reached out for a collab, it quickly evolved into something more: two fresh remixes that dive deep into the heart of his hypnotic debut. Seth Schwarz teamed up with his funky fellow Be Svendsen, and together they created something that has the same UV index and the same amount of fresh air as a festival with perfect climatic conditions: During its epic 10 minutes of play time, their highly melodic track “Elves of Karoo” grows just as big and exciting as a full weekend on a dancefloor bathed in a generous amount of direct sunlight. Furthermore, Seth Schwarz adds the solo track “Quando Rando” that is slower but just as compelling and that reflects the classical composition skills of this producer in an intriguingly subliminal way. The amount of great producers who contribute remixes for this EP lives up to the idea of a perfect festival, as well – a festival for lovers of catchy yet sophisticated dance music, that is.

Seth Schwarz und Be Svendsen haben gemeinsam etwas geschaffen, dessen UV-Index und Frischluftgehalt einem Festival mit Bilderbuch-Bedingungen entspricht: Ihr hochgradig melodiöser Track “Elves of Karoo” ist in seinen epischen 10 Minuten Spielzeit mindestens genauso groß und ereignisreich wie ein Wochenende auf einer Tanzfläche unter freiem Himmel. Im Alleingang legt Seth Schwarz außerdem den etwas langsameren, aber genauso zugkräftigen Titel “Quando Rando” nach, in dem er seine klassischen Kompositionskünste mit zurückhaltender Eleganz einsetzt. Die Menge der hochkarätigen Künstler, welche für die Remixes an Bord geholt wurden, entspricht übrigens ebenfalls dem Bild eines Festivals mit Bilderbuch-Bedingungen für Freunde eingängiger und doch anspruchsvoller Tanzmusik.

Esteemed artists Nico Stojan and Timujin make their debut on Rebellion this May with Oktoberfest, a powerful three track release that sees the duo collaborate for the very first time. 

Nico explains “this EP is made up of older tracks that Timur and myself made together two years ago whilst I was in London. We invited two musician friends and spent some days together in different studios.” The EP opens with the echoing charm of the title track, as a hypnotic vocal sample asserts itself in a foreign language. Next up, the guitar chords of Satsang gently pluck away as flutes whirr behind a tempered kick. Higher Altitude rounds the EP, as a guitar solo rolls along before giving way to a poignant array of shimmering maraca sounds. 

A native to Berlin, Nico Stojan has been a presence in the electronic music sphere for more than two decades. Having cut his teeth in the German capital with a residency at Bar 25, the talented DJ soon went on to form Ouie Records, alongside Acid Pauli. Previous releases can also be found on the likes of Crosstown Rebels and Physical Records. Timujin is one of Russia’s finest exports. A regular of Burning Man, he has also released on Flying Circus, Earthly Delights and Dope Musique, and is the founder of the international art and sound collective, White Ocean.

Hailing from Germany, there is no doubt a deeply rooted appreciation for all things techno embedded somewhere in Marten Sundberg's genetic code. However, the aptly titled Fear of War may well be a peaceful protest against the more aggressive sounds that can often swarm the genre.
