This is one the songs I wrote for a play about Tyndall  by my brother in law Dr. David Miller.  It was produced by my sister Renee Miller, who also sang and acted in it.   First mounted in 2010 in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, it’s been reprised several times.

REMEMBERING JOHN TYNDALL

This song is from my musical documentary “Perfect Rose,” which debuted in 1989 on KALW in San Francisco. I’ve added several verses to Dorothy Parker’s original and acknowledge the NAACP for their permission to include her work. 


Here is Parker’s original verse:

                   ONE PERFECT ROSE

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met.
All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet -
One perfect rose.

I knew the language of the floweret;

Martha Colburn is an animator and artist. Her band the Dramatics was one of her many musical escapades with Jason Willett. They released six records with 5000 hand made record covers by Martha.

Raised in rural Pennsylvania, USA, Martha Colburn is an artist and animator. Her films have screened in the Venice Biennelle, The Stedelijk Museum, Art Basel, Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival. She has made music videos/ films for bands such as Deerhoof, Felix Kubin and many more. In 2010 her films were included in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2013 her film Metamorfoza was commissioned by and performed by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. She is a 2015 recipient of the Creative Capital Award for her film and performance project 'Western Wild'.
