Celebrating my first International Dawn Chorus Day in Nairobi, where I'm usually woken up by Pied Crows, House Sparrows and Hadadas...and very audible traffic noise in the distance. So, I'm sharing a mixed chorus from one of my most memorable camping expeditions in Kitobo Forest, away from city noise pollution. Ideally dawn chorus is majorly orchestrated by birds but this is not always guaranteed. This day we were woken up by a mix of Black and white Colobus Monkeys and Red-capped Robin-chats, which made a beautiful dawn chorus. Enjoy every little bit of nature's music wherever you are.

Recorded the screech of the Barn Owl in Nairobi, Kenya, 2020, during lockdown.

The Schalow's Turaco is a spectacular green, crested turaco found in forest and dense woodland. It shows large crimson wing patches in flight, and can be seen bouncing through the trees, and flying occasionally with short bursts of wingbeats and long glides. This particular flock was busy feeding on fruiting trees and calling in Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.

The loud shrieks of the Tree hyraxes are a common and unmistakable sound in Mt. Kenya and other highland forests. Tree Hyraxes are medium-sized mammals living in the canopies of tropical forests. They are shy and only move at night, to forage for food or look for mates. As the night unfolds, so do the calls, eventually quietening down, and then rise once more in the wee hours of the morning.
