Andy Fraser (Free) was a great bass player and songwriter. His bass parts are often very sparse and to the point, but he could also fast stuff, as heard during the bass solo in "Mr. Big", for example.
Did you ever notice the differences between the single and album versions of Free's classic "All Right Now"?
Apart from the obvious edits, the single features additional backing vocals, as well as re-recorded guitar and bass parts. The bass in the chorus is one octave lower in the single compared to the album version.
