Versatile German producer Martin Books is the first guest on Simina Grigoriu’s Kuukou imprint, signing off its third release entitled “Too Many Doors”. The eponymous track sets about with a resolute bassline and timber stabbing percussion, subtly evolving into a strapping groove. 

An early 90s synth pop aficionado, Books aptly anchors on synth arrays that accent both tracks. While in the first instance, they take on a raw and relentless pattern, on “Classic Mind” we find them in the form of wandering synths and zig zagging bits creating a psychedelic vortex just before the drop. 

Alex Young & Deetech join forces on the remix, creating a spacier, deep house-reminiscing build up, angling on heavy percussion and cavernous sounds. All in all, a well rounded offering that bears tracks fit for any part of a set.

Was erwartet uns heute Musikalisch von dir?

Martin hat sich heute gedacht nur Martin Books Tracks zu spielen, also meine Persönliche „Best Of“, Stücke die am heufigsten von anderen Dj´s gespielt werden und auf die ich natürlich sehr Stolz bin.

In welchem Genre bewegt sich dein Style?

Ich würde mein Style als „Techno Pop“ bezeichnen, es sind immer sehr Druckvolle Beats, die meist einen Kommerziellen Touch haben, die sich oft durch Feminine Vocals abzeichnen. 
Ich freu mich immer sehr zu hören, wenn Fans sagen, dass sie meine Musik Sofort vom style erkennen.

Wie sieht dein Set up aus mit dem du heute auflegen wirst?

Da es die meisten Stücke aus meinem Set heute auf Vinyl gibt, hatte ich vor mit Platte zu spielen, ABER :)) mein Liebe Agentin Annie (Cubeplus) und ich, hatten vor kurzem in neue Nexus2 Player von Pioneer investiert und da ich auch so in den Clubs spiele, werden die natürlich heute eingeweiht.

Supdub Livecast 003 - Martin Books

Auf seinem vierten Album finden wir einen Martin Books wieder der sich auf all seinen vorherigen Alben bewiesen hatte, sich aber musikalisch nie so eindeutig und klar positionieren konnte wie auf diesem Album.

Jeder seiner Tracks, auch wenn er mal eine Reise in das Universum des Techno-Genres unternimmt, wuchs aus diesen Wurzeln heran und es ist ein ganz besonderer musikalischer Genuss Martin Books auf diese Weise wieder zu erkennen.

Dies alles bezeichnet Martin selbst als Techno Pop, sein Style welcher sich in den letzten Jahren entwickelt hat. Es ist schön ein Album zu haben das, wenn es endet, wieder von selbst beginnt. In der jetzigen Zeit wo Lieder nach Klicks buhlen und viele davon in einem riesigen Raum umherirren ist dies ein Album das, als Ganzes gesehen, eine völlig eigene Kraft entfaltet.

Zu Beginn der Produktion vom Album „Split“ schien die Aufgabe sich als die schwerste Hürde herauszustellen denn es sollte den eigenen Anspruch und den anderen Alben in nichts nachstehen. Für eine Entfaltung muss man frei sein um seine eigene Energie nutzen zu können. 

Niemals wird sich Martin Books verstellen und produziert das Album mit seinen über die Jahre gesammelten Erfahrungen an technischem Wissen, in der Vergangenheit gemachte Fehler sowie seiner Leidenschaft auf der Bühne um am Ende der Albumarbeit zu erkennen, dass all diese Dinge ausreichten um mit seiner Arbeit sehr zufrieden und darüber hinaus sehr stolz zu sein.

Berlin based Martin Books returns to Kneaded Pains with the two track ‘Time’ EP.  

Already no stranger to the label, having released the ‘Monkey City’ single in 2019, and more recently, contributed to the ‘KPAINS2’ compilation album, Books stamps his muscular techno sound over these tracks.
