Maison D’etre’s moody masters have been at it again. Long-time friends, Gel Abril and
Anthony Middleton have combined forces to produce more than a collaborative EP. ‘All in the
Mind’ is a dexterous fusion melding what could be considered contrasting styles into balanced
compliment. ‘All in the Mind’ is murky, provocative, groovy- all that is that is Maison D.
Contrast and compliment, space and balance, much like a friendship this two-track EP shows
off the strength of dynamic collaboration, honouring differences and never conformity.
‘All in the Mind,’ showcases both producers’ unique craft; fusing Gel Abril’s signature techno
sound with Anthony Middleton’s melodic and spacious arrangements. Thought provoking
vocals stretched out across a landscape of rhythmic pads. A tribal space voyage, both stirring
and calming, complex yet simple- experiential and unreal all in perfect contradiction. Dark and
hypnotic with a techno pad breakdown this beat-rider evokes imagination…It is, after all, ‘All in
the Mind’.
‘Hey You’ is a classic track reinvented with some contemporary techno flare. Classic vocals,
airy and distant, are laid over super modern tech and synth sounds in a digital Ping-Pong style.
This track is all about rhythmic drive with old-school baseline, a combination that is bound to
keep the feet dancing well past 4am.

Needwant  are  pleased  to  welcome  Kiwi  onto  the  label  for  his  debut  'Mayfly' release.  Starting  with  the  chilled   original  that  is  completed  with  Amy  Skippings  vocals.  Belgian  DJ  and  producer  Compuphonic  shows  diversity  by   delivering  two  remixes.  Urulu  switching  things  up  with  his  dub  remix.   Alex  Warren  aka  Kiwi  has  developed  his  own  unique  sound  over  the  past  year,  combining influences  from  Disco,  Funk  and  House.  2013  has  seen  him  announce  releases  on  labels  such  as  Days  Of  Being  Wild,  Kitsune  and  the  highly  acclaimed  Deep  Shit. One  of  the  youngest  DJs  on  the  Belgian  DJ  circuit,  Maxime  Firket  aka  Compuphonic  soon  moved  onto  the   international  scene  with  a  release  on  Tiga's  Turbo  Recordings.  Further  releases  came  on  other  highly  acclaimed   labels  including  Modular,  Darkroom  Dubs,  Systematic  Recordings,  2020  Vision  and  Parquet  Recordings.     Taylor  Freels  aka  Urulu  recently  teamed  up  with  fellow  Londoners  Chaos  In  The  CBD  to  release  their  'Never  Again  EP'  on  Needwant.  Originally  from  L.A,  Urulu  has  been  making  a  name  for  himself  recently  with  previous   releases  on  Exploited  and  Dirt  Crew  Recordings.

Daniel Avery - All I Need

The thirteenth release on Light my Fire comes courtesy of Robot Beauty & The Missile, a project founded by the Vienna pair of Florian Kaltstrom and Emil Berliner in the summer of 2012 whilst building a studio together. Since then they released the ‘So Wack’ EP on Be One Records, while also perusing their individual careers on labels such as Bedrock or MBF.  Here, on ‘Sometimes’, they present us with two dreamy and emotive originals that are complimented by a further two high-calibre remixes. 

‘Sometimes’ leads us through an arrangement of elevating synth motifs, techy percussion and a jumpy bassline, all held together by a vocal sample that most should be familiar with: tasteful deep house for the early hours. Niko Schwind then ups the tempo on his UK bassline-house remix, which aims straight at the dance-floor’s jugular vein.  On ‘Flutencia’ Robot Beauty & The Missile then move dub chords and mysterious flute notes effortlessly over a tech house beat, engaging the listener with a sense of urgency. Lastly, Smash TV convince with a remix that focuses on the original’s dub aspects, albeit in a reduced manner. Potent dance-floor stuff, for sure.

OOH GOSH! EP is the second release by fresh label Jeudi Records and introduces the producer, dj and label co-owner Doctor Dru.  Dru s youth was about three things: hitting the snare, skateboarding and funk & soul music. He soon started drumming professionally throughout Europe supporting guys like R.Kelly in sold out concert halls. A crash with his skateboard forced him to quit playing drums. Soon Doctor Dru fell in love with an atari and a drum machine and started improving his production skills. He was producing and writing for a wide variety of artists e.g. Bootsy Collins, one of his heroes. But the 4 to the floor never let him go. He felt, he had some grooves to tell and so in 2010 he found some like-minded guys out of the Baalsaal, Hamburg and founded the label Jeudi Records. Now after ghostproducing for other Dj´s, he´s coming out with his own stuff. House is the playground and the pulse keeping it together is his destiny. Just recently his Juicy Fruit Bootleg caused quite a stir among the deep house scene.

Jeudi Records now presents a package with 3 original tracks and a remix of the berlin based Hipster Duo Hickup (Dirty Bird, Sweat It Out, Exploited).

OOH GOSH! is a driving, classic house trip spreading love with an adorable performing female voice. Yes, it´s sexual and yes, the bassline melody will stick to your ears! Oh, and sorry for getting naked!

PONGO! is a get together of two passionate drummers with a love for the african groove. Looks like that: Doctor Dru invited his mate Dezzo to his studio and they were clapping, shaking and drumming. This tech house groover with the extensive build up was causing extasy and passed the dancefloor test by making our dancers happy.

BABY! is a soulful track, with a feel for the deeper mood. It´s lovely, gentle and soft.

Coming from the heart of Bosnia, Solomun is a passionate DJ who certainly knows how to please a crowd and keep the energy on the floor. Equally as talented and creative in the studio, he has many releases to his name on his own label Diynamic, as well as other imprints such as Four:Twenty, liebe*detail and Dessous recordings. Made for the dancefloor, his productions always have an element of funk or surprise, reminding people of the fun that's there to be had with music. As a label with many close ties to mobilee records, Diynamic will be co-hosting a party at mobilee's Sonar 2010 celebrations, which makes it even more fitting that this release brings the two forces more closely together.

Solomun's next big bang, being brought to you via Leena music, is a sure extension of his impeccable production skills and style, and is also one of the most unique releases you will here on the label so far. A-side 'Sisi' opens with a head-spinning explosion of notes and chords, being fired out like sparks in a continual loop. Then half way through the record, they dramatically stop, only to soon build up again and set the roller coaster off once more. B-side 'Talk To The Hand' is a bass-heavy and punchy track, that surprises you with euphoric piano chords in the second half, whilst B2 'Curesto' brings all of the elements together with piano chords, build-ups and some drama. For the first single from a 6-track EP from Montreal's Clarian (who is also one half of Footprintz), the Canadian reached well beyond the border to collaborate with Tel Aviv-born, Madrid-based producer Guy Gerber on "Claire." Gerber has been a major player on Israel's electronic scene since 2006, running his own Supplemental Facts label and infusing traces of minimal techno, tech house, downtempo and deep house in his productions, while remaining singular in his approach. Clarian's vocal contributions were at the heart of Gerber's progressive house-leaning Fabric mix from last year, which joined the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Omar-S of artists that turned in single-artist mixes to the series. "Claire" starts amid a queasy vocal snippet (with Clarian's French whisper lodged in at the midpoint) and threatens to go darker and deeper. But a steady handclap and glimmering melodic line uplifts and casts light across this seven-minute track.

Shir Khan &amp; Exploited dip their toes into the world of disco edits with the launch of new label Black Jukebox which sees contributions from label regulars Homework as well as introducing the Hamburg axis Doctor Dru &amp; Adana Twins into the fold. Doctor Dru&amp;Adana Twins lead the way with their slo-mo housed-up boogie-soul joint "Juicy Fruit". Alongside it "Supreme" dips into housier territory with the primitive scratching and rising piano lines giving proceedings an 80s sensation soaked with twilight niceties. Both tracks are presented it in a nicely recut fashion reminiscent of the great Tiger &amp; Woods. On the flip Homework transforming "Lenny" into a glistening disco house number whilst "Love Ray" is perhaps the most straight up excursion into main room filtered disco house territory.

Martin Buttrich is famously as fluent behind a mixing console as in front of a virtual drum kit. That technical prowess, combined with a fascination for music of every shape, has resulted in outstanding releases on influential labels such as Planet E, Four:Twenty, Cocoon, Poker Flat, Nervous and Desolat. He’s also put his sonic thumbprint on many big ticket artists, notably receiving a Grammy nomination for a Tori Amos remix in 2003. Such diverse musical horizons are rare. While other prolific artists may have slowly watered down their music, Buttrich’s star has risen in diametric opposition. His vision has become more and more condensed, more and more crystallised. Flipping and puncturing grooves in a live setting is a snap for him, and he’s entranced audiences at festivals like Time Warp and Creamfields, at temples of boom such as Fabric (London), Womb (Tokyo), Cocoon (Frankfurt), Panorama Bar (Berlin) and Amnesia (Ibiza) and at worldwide Desolat Experience parties with Loco Dice.

Buttrich’s journey into electronic music began in clubs in Berlin and Hannover at the dawn of the ‘90s, when post-Summer of Love-Europe began to swing to its own hypnotic, machine-like groove. At 18 years old he began experimenting with production as X-Rotation (with Daniel Bross), which led to the projects Rhythm Assault, Sounds of Life and Phunk Diggazs (with engineer Andy Bolleshon).

Buttrich began a notorious collaboration with his then co-worker at Peppermint Jam distribution, Timo Maas, in the mid-‘90s (they worked the telephones together). After setting up his first studio in the basement of the Peppermint Park studio building, the partnership led to over 100 co-productions and remixes that included Madonna, Muse, Fatboy Slim. Josh Wink and Green Velvet. Buttrich has produced funk legend Bootsy Collins, while switching the patterns for artists including Tom Jones, Kelis, Moloko, Depeche Mode, Placebo, Yello, War and Roger Sanchez. His Azzido Da Bass “Dooms Night” remix with Timo Maas hit the UK top ten charts.
 
All the while he created an impressive library of beats and collected an arsenal of music production equipment for his studio in Timetools, a studio complex founded in 1997 in Hannover with a group of musicians. Buttrich is happy with the subtle crunch of an SP-12 sampler and the ‘smoky’ vibe of his analog mixing desk – adding a bass guitar or other instrument when necessary. But he’s not above having fun with a laptop either: approaching music programs as if they were video games. He doesn’t rely on any one machine or music composition technique, and his array of outboard gear is mouth-wateringly state of the art.
But he never loses touch with the gritty, human side of music, and the environments that it is played in.

Another key musical partnership, with Loco Dice, begun in 2002, undoubtedly inspired Buttrich to delve deeper into the musical histories that first lured him towards after-dark melodies. In a short space of time they’d built up a deep discography creating an era-defining sound in the process. They spent more than half a year living in New York in 2006/2007, with half of Buttrich’s studio set up in a rickety hideaway in Brooklyn that looked out over Manhattan’s vistas. Between late night production sessions and snowstorms, their Desolat label came to life.

Having his debut solo album Crash Test released on Desolat in early 2010, Martin Buttrich is taking his vision to the road, fusing wild imagination with solid musical architecture, cherry-picked inspiration with true perfection of his musical craft. 

Since then constantly on tour, in 2011 Martin Buttrich still has dropped a remarkable collection of music - productions like “Fire Files” EP on Desolat or remixes for Marco Carola and Lee Curtis amongst others.

Currently based in LA, Martin Buttrich is working on his second artist album and a jazz project called The Stoned Autopilot.
