These improvisations are influenced by the landscape near the river Eem. This empty landscape has everything to do with swamps reclaimed in the Middle Ages, the expansion of the Zuiderzee and the many floods that occurred here until 1932. At high tide, the water flowed over the dikes and sometimes they broke. The inflowing water then sanded a vortex hole, which is called a "waai". These ‘waaien' are now small lakes behind the dikes. It is an old and empty landscape where the light bounces off their surface and clouds moving over slowly.

ON|RUST as it appears here on soundcloud is the first stage of a small project that is actually called O|N|RUST consists of this track, plus a Bandcamp version (January 2024 - supplemented with two short pieces for percussion and electronics) and a 2024 small scale vinyl release. I've built a number of rhythmic sound machines especially for this piece which mainly consists of the hum and interference of electrical equipment supplemented with an electric guitar drone. Mastered by Rupert Clervaux.

Theo and I have worked on countless music projects over the past 40 years. I have learned a lot from his stubborn and headstrong views and methods of recording and mixing music. His influence on my soundscapes is immense. In 2014 we both enjoyed working on “Where Do We Go From Here?” (2014 - Etched Traumas - ET77) which became also part of the soundtrack of Australian short movie “Grid Face”. Pieces for acoustic guitar and loop station.

In 2017 I worked on a sequel, the guitar suite "Licht". 
“Epitaph (for TC)” is originally a demo version of one of the pieces but unused in the “Licht” version as it appeared on CD (2018 “LIght / Well” - Thirsty Leaves Music - TLM019). Due to Theo’s health problems it was not possible to collaborate on this project but he appreciated the sober minimal guitar pieces for what they were.

I will remember Theo with great respect for the rest of my life.
