Based on a song by John Lennon called Child of Nature, an early version of what later became ,,Jealous Guy”. This is a song he wrote when he was still with The Beatles and it has a completely different lyrics and vibe then the final version we all know from his solo album.
I love the final version of the song Jealous Guy, but I wanted to explore the alternative potential of this song and take this beautiful melody even further away from the final version’s vibe, so I made it into this ethereal piece. I don’t think it’s better or worse then any other version of this song and it isn’t the point either. I just love the vocal melody and the surreal, psychedelic lyrics and wanted to celebrate the genius of it by making my own cover of it. Peace and love!

Vitas is a Latvian singer, who sings in Russian and Ukrainian. This song happens to be written in Russian, so I sang it that way (it’s easy for me to do because my native language is Czech and most slavic languages are somewhat similar, especially if you have a passion for learning languages, which I do).

This is a song I have always enjoyed and it brought me a lot of joy over the years, I hope my cover will do the same for you.

I obviously do not make any statement with this, the fact that it’s in Russian is just a part of the song for me, and it’s not the language’s fault how many of the people who speak it are unfortunately behaving or thinking. My country had a very negative experience with Russia in the past and regarding current situation, I want to say that I strongly condemn Russia for its absolutely unacceptable actions of mass murdering civilians and its terrorist behaviour in Ukraine.

I was considering changing the lyrics to Ukrainian and singing it that way, but the truth is I like the song the way it was written, so I hope everyone can understand that it’s just a language to me, I condemn the country that speaks it. And if that seems harsh - no. Russia’s actions are way more then harsh, so I think being a little bit ,,harsh” when we talk about them is a completely appropriate response. This track is not meant to replace the original cover I made; I was merely playing with it in post production recently and eventually also added some extra vocals and some more details. I felt relatively pleased with and fascinated by the result, so I decided to share it here.

On this song, I sang all the lyrics and the melodies backwards. Then reversed the recording (of the vocals).

First I always learned to merely say each section of the lyrics backwards, without focusing on the melody, just speaking.
Once I was able to say it backwards correctly, I recorded myself singing it forwards and reversed it to learn how the melody sounds backwards, until I was able to sing the lyrics and melody backwards, so that it sounds right when the recording is reversed. The result is what you’re hearing in this song, with all my vocals being played in reverse throughout the whole song.
