Birthed in Brooklyn from her home studio during lockdown, producer and stay-at-home DJ Lauren Ritter unveiled her own, newly-minted label Rift Vision in 2020 with four deep, glittering compositions, including “Thirst Trap,”  a collaboration with Oakland-based poet and lyricist Tenesha The Wordsmith (On The Corner).

Tenesha and Lauren quickly forged a bi-coastal friendship, chatting on Zoom about all aspects of their lives, sharing fragments of poetry and slices of musical compositions. It soon became clear that they had more music they wanted to share with the world, and with that, Tenesha hopped on a plane to New York and the duo spent a long weekend in the studio writing and recording, laying the foundation for what was to become this new project, “Particles of Sound.” 

The EP showcases their dynamic range, with tracks like “Dopamine” and “Perfect Match” exploring ethereal rhythms and introspective musings, while “Particles of Sound” and “Where My Sisters At” are anthemic, energetic party starters, urging you to “Clap…. Stomp…. Move!”

Whats left to say about Steve Bug, the house and techno legend who’s influence has left huge fingerprints on the German underground dance scene, not least from his groundbreaking label, Poker Flat or how it shaped ‘00s minimal house; his releases on every seminal label you can think of from Bedrock to Ovum via Cocoon and Defected; his creativity and dedication to his art with 5 solo LPs and 2 collaboration LPs, the latest of which Mixmag described as “elegantly euphoric”; his incredible live sets or his continued love for the music. Honestly, what else can we say? He’s the artist we all want to be when we grow up! Opening with ‘Quando Bailas Asi’ warm lows and choppy stabs are as inviting as visiting your favourite nan for supper. Spoken word lyrics add to the ambience and latin flavor that grooves effortlessly throughout. Relative newcomer, Cristina broke into the scene in 2016 and quickly established herself with releases on TBX, Bondage-Music and Rebellion. Constructing a chunkier tech groove with splashes of balearic guitar, Cristina’s remix captures the originals charm to perfection. Finally, ‘Trees & Clouds’ sees Steve dabbling with delicate Detroitian vibes. Deeply sparse and utterly hypnotising, he recreates the very essence of those early pioneering grooves, expertly bringing them up to date for the modern floors.

Polish multi-instrumentalist Kuba Sojka debuts on Rekids’ RSPX imprint.

Opening track ‘Whispers’ on Kuba Sojka’s ‘Life’ EP on Rekids Special Projects is a piece of brilliantly stripped-back yet evocative tech house, perfectly swung with clipped vocals and acidic synth pulses that bring boundless late-night energy. Next, the superb ‘ID’ unfolds at a slower tempo with a sense of mystery and intrigue. The drums again swing low, this time with groaning pads up top, speaking of a desolate landscape as keys trickle in the distance.

‘ID’ is a brilliantly cinematic cut that keeps you on your toes, while Sojka’s ‘Revived’ rides on big dub techno waves with fizzing pads up top and percussion sprinkled over the vast rolling kicks. Last of all, ‘Final Process’ entrances with rich layers of silky synths trailing off into a cosmic sky as the mid-tempo drums make for a supple groove down low. 

A live performer, musician, and producer Kuba Sojka draws on a plethora of sounds such as funk, jazz, and soul. He brings an experimental edge to his music and, under his Kuba Sojka and Psi-Acoustic project, has explored IDM, electro, future jazz, and acid. He has landed on labels like Mathematics, Matrix Records, International Day Off Records, and now Radio Slave’s RSPX.
