‘Cabio Sile Shango!’ - Now here’s a true macho man. Probably the most widely known and revered of the Orisha, Shango (aka Chàngó, Xango, Sango)  is the epitome of all things masculine, and the dispenser of vengeance on behalf of the wronged. He is the osha of thunder and lightning, fire, victory, sensuality, virility, undisputable authority,  justice, legal matters, drumming and dancing. Throughout the African diaspora, he is regarded as the main symbol of resistance against European oppression, and of African self-confidence in the world and black power generally. He was once an great warrior and the fourth king of Òyó, capital of the Yoruba empire.
Pretty much a ladies’ man, he has rather a crush on oshun. His special numbers are six and twelve, and his favorite colors are red and white, preferred foods are bananas, apples, cornmeal, okra, red wine and rum. Shango's day of the week is Saturday, although Friday also is popular.
He is represented with a double axe on his three heads and the holy animal attributed to him is a ram. He’s also said to be fond of dogs.

Bereits in der ersten Welle seines globalen Siegeszuges -anfang der 90er- versetzte House Music die Townships Südafrikas in helle Begeisterung.

Im totalitären Apartheid-Regime war die Idee einer globalen Kultur nicht vorgesehen. Wurde dieser neuen referenz-armen Musik in den USA auch Eskapismus vorgeworfen, galt hier das genaue Gegenteil. Die Signaturen der neuen elektronischen musik – Abstraktion, referentielle (nationale, kulturelle, politische) Verweigerung, Emanzipation vom Autor – erschienen vor der Matrix der Burischen Rassentrennungsgesetze auf revolutionäre weise Mondän. dieser messianischen Komponente trägt nicht zuletzt die Namensgebung Rechnung: House Music hieß hier anfangs nur “International Music”.

“House Music was a part of the soundtrack of social change and was the underground answer to the chains of restriction imposed by the Dutch/British minority who occupied South Africa through the system of apartheid. In fact, the Bronx, the South Side of Chicago and South Africa were all united by the stank of disenfranchisement and the electronic music inspired by the lived reality of people in all three places amplified the inequalities that connected black people around the world.” Lynnee Denise

Ausgehend von Südafrika verbreitete sich House in den letzten zehn Jahren in weitere Länder des Kontinents – Angola, Mosambik, Namibia, Zentralafrikanische Republik.
Heute ist Südafrika – nach Pro-Kopf-Verkäufen – der weltweit grösste markt für House Music.

Kanisa ist eine auswahl aktueller Houseproduktionen aus Südafrika, Angola und CAR der letzten 4 Jahre im Spannungsfeld zwischen globalen Marktanforderungen und lokaler künstlerischer Expression, Reaktion und Reappropriation, Kitsch und Hitze.
