Demonstration of using the Apple DLS Synthesizer in Ableton Live. The DLS Synth is the only sound source used in this track.

This track is just my MaxForLive plug-in 'MIDI ProbablyZ' driving the vanilla 'Alpha' synth preset from Ableton Live 9.7.3. The source setup is a 16 step sequence containing the 5 different pitches, plus additional grids controlling note choice, octave transpositions, probability, velocity and note length. Recorded live with no editing (other than the fade at the end), and no live tweaking.

This is an audio demonstration of the MIDIsmoothR_mr_0v02 Max For Live device for Ableton Live. It allows 'control voltages' from Ableton's 'remote control' system to be smoothed (slew rate limited) and processed in other ways - plus it can be used as a random 'control voltage' generator. In this example, the first two bars are unprocessed, then the next two bars show the effect of random time delay settings being changed per note event (left and right channels can have different  time delay values!), and then two bars of unprocessed followed by the final two bars with delay! I've been a synthesizer builder, programmer and player since the 1960s. I was a regular contributor to Sound On Sound magazine for about ten years. I wrote the Focal Press book: 'Sound Synthesis and Sampling', which is currently in its third edition.
