In an ongoing exploration of the psychedelic music world, Desert Trax is pleased to bring the ‘The Mycelium Is Remixed.’ 

Consisting of six reimagined tracks based on Liquid Bloom & PERE’s 2022 collaboration with famed mycologist Paul Stamets, “The Mycelium Is Listening,” this explorative collection features our favorite submissions from a remix contest hosted by our friends at Guatemala’s Fungi Academy earlier this year.

After receiving countless tracks from producers around the world, we’re excited to present the three winning compositions by Illusive Tuna, CALAGNA, and Ojhro, as well as our favorite runner-up tracks by Subliminull and Desert Trax artists Spice Traders and Tylepathy.

An immersive blend of styles that traverses the realms of liquidy psydub, deep tribal house, ethereal downtempo, and soothing ambient sound, ‘The Mycelium Is Remixed‘ showcases the innovative work of both new and established producers across the globe tapping into the bountiful resources of the natural world.

In the way Joseph Campbell united cultures across time and space with his Power of Myth, Australia's Kalya Scintilla celebrates the ancient mythologies that connect humans across all walks of life. Bringing narrative back into the electronic music world, Scintilla's desire is to not only inspire fans with his wildly imaginative soundscapes, but bring an element of performance and storytelling into his live shows and studio work that hearkens back to our primal ancestors sharing their knowledge of the world as they huddled around campfires.

Here's what Eve Olution, Kalya Scintilla's partner in the creation of the Open Ancient Eyes mythology, had to say about the album:

Weaving myth into the fabric of this music, Kalya Scintilla takes this concept album to new heights in offering multi-layered depth and intentional precision on every level. The story begins with a voice calling to us to remember something we have forgotten; as each song begins we find rich tapestries of musical architecture to explore the landscapes from all around the world. Africa, India, Asia, and many more to paint the pictures of something rooted within us from our past all awaiting us to reclaim. Each song playing out like a fragment of ourself spread across the planet as we travel down each one like a pathway leading to a greater knowing. This album invites us into our imagination and asks us to journey inwards towards the calling to enter the temple of our heart and Open Ancient Eyes.

Eve Olution, along with famed digital artist and longtime Tipper collaborator Johnathan Singer, will join Kalya Scintilla the road this fall as he brings this story to life. Dates along the west coast, into the midwest, and down to the southeast over the next few months will allow more fans to find themselves immersed in this new sonic paradigm.

Succeeding the release of Desert Dwellers’ monumental Breath album, Amani and Treavor continue their patronage to cultural celebration and musical heritage with Breath Reimagined Vol. 1. Featuring an abundance of new-comers to the Desert Dwellers sound, this inaugural volume shall precede a trilogy of remix albums to come from the ingenious duo. Throughout Breath Reimagined, 14 brilliant producers within the psychedelic and world-fusion communities exhibit 14 euphonious recreations, each derived from one of the original 10 tracks.

Falling into an altered state of consciousness, Halfred recreates “Dreams Within a Dream” with dub bestrewn over alluring instrumentals. Once you leave your meditative state, Nanosphere merges seductive instrumentation with funky low frequencies as we continue “Traversing the Endless Road.” Forging ahead, Gumi guides you through a turbulent wind of dynamic and atmospheric beats in “Closed Eyes in a Dust Storm.” Traveling by foot, you discover the “One That Shows The Way” through MantisMash’s sonorous synths and Somatoast’s soprano rendition. 

As you begin “Longing For Home,” DISSØLV raises the original downtempo piece an octave higher to create a sonic soundscape while Mindex incorporates elements of glitch. Mumukshu reinvents the original global folk “At Last, Our Refugee” track into a resounding four-minute bass voyage that overlays an accelerated tribal trap foundation. “Praise Her, the Fire Keeper” receives reimaginations from Pitch Black, who adds a bass backdrop to the tranquil piece, and TRIBONE, who takes the composition underground. As listeners continue to explore the “Realms of Splendor,” DRRTYWULVZ commences a series of bass undertones as metal continuously rattles together in Erothyme’s recreation. Globular’s Vicious Ether Remix of “To Be the Air” fosters an upbeat environment for the buoyant acoustic atmosphere. Compelling you back into deep meditation as Breath Reimagined concludes, Bluetech’s Berlin School Mix introduces Holotropic Breathwork to “Breathing the Mysteries.”
