Disquiet Junto Project 0591: The Loneliest Number
The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Please note: While this is the start of a three-part project, you can participate in one, two, or all three of the parts, which will occur over the next three weeks.

Step 1: This week’s Junto project is the first in a sequence intended to encourage and reward collaboration. You will be recording something with the understanding that it will remain unfinished for the time being. Your part will be done, but more will happen. Read on.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music using any instrumentation of your choice. Conceive the piece as something that leaves room for something else — other instruments, other people — to join in.

Step 3: Record a short piece of music, roughly two to three minutes in length, as described in Step 2.

Step 4: This is important: be sure to make your track downloadable because it may be used by someone else in the next Disquiet Junto project, and then after that.

Took a break from Juntos recently to deal with life and trying to re-think my studio practice.

It's so nice to be back. Hoping to get into the "actually finishing creative work" mode again.

Here's a short ambient piece based on this idea I've been developing recently:
-  a few unsynchronized loop layers washing over like waves, endlessly recombining in new ways.

There's plenty of room for new material:
- there's no BPM as such - all sounds are coming as waves from a few unsynced loops
- sound is mostly located in this part of the spectrum, leaving space in the bass and treble parts for new layers

Key: D minor, 10-15 cents above the reference note.
Tempo: none (multiple unsynced looping waves).
Instrumentation: bowed electric guitar + reverbs + tape emulation.

Welcome to lost lands, what drugs do you want?

To me drones in daylight suggest, obviously, brightness but perhaps also a kind of straightforward simplicity and purity. For me, the sine wave rendered in the major scale represents these qualities. Hence this track is the result of a one lone sine wave oscillator tuned to the C-major scale. There is of course lots of looping and over looping and the requisite reverb.

Disquiet Junto Project 0650: Doppler, Interrupted
The Assignment: Record a piece of music in which a passing siren blossoms into something else entirely

The siren I used as raw material is an excerpt from my work with Sound Obsessed x Sónar+D: Temporal Tide

The collection of A/V pieces is currently exhibited at Sonar Festival in Barcelona. It's a collective work I enjoyed being part of https://www.soundobsessed.com/temporaltide

For my part of the exhibition piece "Exploring global temperatures since  1750" I processed Earth Surface Temperature Data for several cities as control voltage in VCV Rack. Noah Pred wrote a wonderful article about his sonification tool for  Ableton and how people approached the sonification task for Temporal Tide: https://manifest.audio/temporal-tide

Low Tide is inspired from that work. I heavily processed the siren and the first bleeps from the incoming
data in audacity (simulating a doppler effect, of sorts). I processed that sound in VCV Rack and added a synth from my Ksoloti Gills (Tiar SpaceViolin).
