Great song original written and recorded by Wishbone Ash on their 1975 album, Argus. The guitars on this version were superbly played by the great guitarist Duncan McIntosh I played with in an Edinburgh band in the 70s called Habeas Corpus. Duncan did the electric guitars and drums and I did the vocals, bass and 12 string acoustic in the middle bit.

An old favourite written and recorded by Marvin Gaye in 1962 and superbly performed and recorded by Paul Young in 1983. I sang and played all rhythm guitars and key boards and my bass chum Steve Partlett did the Palladino-like bass playing on his excellent WAL five string fret less.

Written by Jim Capaldi, Paul Carrack and Peter Vale and more famously recorded by the Eagles on their Hell Freezes Over album in 1994, this is my version with Edinburgh guitarist Duncan McIntosh. Duncan played all the rhythm and lead guitars and keyboards and I played the electric bass, claves, cabasa and sang all the vocals including the chorus ooohs and aaahs.

The original song was recorded by Huey Lewis and the News in 1983. This version was recorded by me and my Edinburgh ex-band mate from Habeus Corpus, Duncan McIntosh. Duncan played and recorded all the guitars, bass, keyboards and sourced the drum track. The terrific sax solo was played and recorded by a friend of a friend north of the border called Ivan Marples. I did all the vocals and you’ll notice the not-so-occasional reference to some Scottish places (as opposed to the American original). A great excuse to give a mention to Auchtermuchty!

All rhythm, lead guitars and programmed drums are played by Duncan McIntosh with whom I sang in Habeus Corpus in the late 70s in Edinburgh. I played bass and did all the singing. Duncan recorded his bits and sent them to me where I put them into my Tascam and did the bass and vocals - all done as a bit of fun and a wee trial excercise. ‘Turned out quite well!

I joined various bands in Edinburgh during the 70s as lead singer and rhythm guitarist. After a hippie trail travel to India in the late 70s, I returned and was a live sound engineer for a number of bands including the Solos who supported The Tourists (Annie Lennox first band) and the Boys of the Lough. I then helped set up and run the Pier House recording studio in Edinburgh which is still running (2021) and still managed by Peter Haig. I then got a ‘proper job’ with IBM in the early 80s and retired as Commercial Director 2017. I’ve since gone back to my musical roots recording myself and chums at home on my digital Tascam DP32SD.
