Une chanson pop d'une grande richesse musicale qui semble ressortir tout droit d'une autre époque pour son esthétisme sonore d'inspiration rétro qui évoque les glorieuses années 80. L'interprétation vocale masculine au ton feutré véhicule une poésie remplie d'images fortes coiffée d'un refrain accrocheur qui rencontre un aspect mélodique issu d'un flair musical exceptionnel. 〰 A pop song of great musical richness that seems to come straight out of another era for its retro-inspired sound aesthetic that evokes the glorious 80s. The hushed male vocals convey a poetic quality full of powerful images, topped by a catchy chorus that meets a melodic aspect born of exceptional musical flair.

‘Sunset Thinking’ was written and recorded by myself and Jon in the summer of 2023. Genre-wise I'm calling it 'Post-Yacht' but then, I'm an idiot. 

Every element of it, as with all our stuff, is home-recorded, mixed, produced, mastered, sleeve-designed, “promoted” and released by our very own clammy little paws. We remain proudly DIY even if we don’t sound like Shellac. Which, much to my consternation, we do not.

What we didn't make was the beautiful accompanying video by our good friend lejuanix. Check it out, it’s perfect.

'Sunset Thinking’ is my attempt to depict the experience of someone who finds themselves in the role of carer, in a situation where they believed they were a partner, a friend, or family member. It’s a song about dealing with the frustration which arises from trying to help someone suffering with mental health issues. It’s about the strain of attempting to show someone the value in the small, beautiful moments in life. It’s about the tiny victories these wonderful people achieve when they can show you the light coming in through the cracks, if only for a moment.

I’ve been lucky enough to know people like this.  I hope I was able to capture some small part of their experience.


‘Sunset Thinking’ is a hymn to the people who help you when you can’t help yourself, those who stand by you when you can’t stand, the people who show patience and kindness and ask nothing in return.

Martyrs are Jon and Michael. Raised in Wales, now living in Kent. We make big music in small rooms. Proudly DIY, everything from writing and recording to releasing and promo is done in-house. Literally, in our houses. Our last album LUMINISM sold out of physical copies and garnered over 100,000 streams across online platforms. Which was nice.
Our latest single The View From A Memorial Bench is the first in a series of ten singles on which we'll stretch our music across a variety of genres. We're restless like that. Enjoy.
