Julian Maier-Hauff is a young emerging artist from southern Germany. His roots lie in Jazz music, but through the past years he’s become more and more into electronic music.
Ever since he was little reproducing music without reading the notes, as well as creating his own have been his passion.

Early on he found his way to Jazz music and started playing in Jazz formations, Funk- and Bigbands as a young teenager. When he was 17 he bought his first loop station. This tool made it possible for the young musician – who so far hadn’t had much to do with Recording software – to produce and perform new beats. This was the starting gun for Julian Maier-Hauff as live act. One year later he travelled through Germany with a friend for two weeks, busking with the loop station and experimenting with different effects. His interest lay equally in Jazz and electronic music when he started his Jazz trumpet studies at the University of Mannheim. As his setup got more and more complex he felt invited to experiment even more than before.
When he was 18 years old he won the German “Boss Loop Station World Championship 2” prize.

The following three years he focused on his Jazz studies as well as personally developing his electronic music skills. Mainly as self-taught person he learned to play the Saxophone and valve trombone. He collected first experiences as a producer and kept himself busy with sound synthesis. Jobs as studio musician and sideman for great artists such as Samy Deluxe, Manu Chao, Robot Koch, Irie Révoltés, Aldoc and many more followed.

In 2014 the young artist switched from the loop station to a new setup.
Recently he’s been working mainly analog in combination with the advantages of digital sound processing. His sound always stays true to it’s playful characteristic traits. By using live instruments, that are either played as a soloist or subtly alienated the sound seeks to be organic and very human.

Another key element in his music is the unconditional stylistic diversity. Determined tracks, fixed sounds and tonal elements don’t exist in such form. Everything is modified, developed and arranged the moment it is performed. Julian Maier-Hauff plays with the depths of the fictional room, combines extensive elements with drifting grooves; crystalline sounds with calm melodies. The sound device moves continuously from one motive to the next once it’s been started. The audience is captured and taken on a journey with the keel of music through unknown worlds of sounds, to – in the end of the performance – be dropped safely in the homeport.

Neighbourhood is the burgeoning UK imprint that's dedicated to promoting leftfield electronic music and downright thumping techno. Run by Tasha, the selector has a show on Radar Radio and her label parties happen regularly at The Pickle Factory in London.
