Visual artist Mary Begley also goes under the name of Mimi Bourgeoise in her music and performance endeavors. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, she played in Buffalo Based bands: Burnt Orange Hawker w/Gary Trella, Mimi Bourgeoise and the Anonymous Donor w/Eric Tuberdyke and a cameo vocal in Bitchslap (circa 1990-1995.) During this time she also performed in a poetry troop called “Naked Voices” in Buffalo New York. The troop put out a publication and had Salon style poetry events. Mimi also performed in Ron Ehmke’s Samizdat group on occasion and for a brief time in a band called NINM which didn’t last long but practiced a lot.

From 1995 though 2017 she worked as Label Manager for Righteous Babe Records, an indie label set up for Ani DiFranco releases. Mary says, “it was a good gig, lucky am I.” Now she is getting back to being a creative. Her work in progress audio series combines concrete poetry with vocal recitations.
