Weightless

"Anuwe" is a journey into rhythm made for both dance and meditation. 

A song created by Sri Kala with the intention to sing the depth of his grief and celebration, he channeled the words of his ancestors through his surrendering.

Long after the words for “Anuwe” came through did he discover their meaning. "Anuwe nin so," shows up as "I love you" in the Nigerian language Hausa. Hausa is a language Sri Kala have no connection to in 'knowing,' but it’s spoken in the land where his ancestors are from. 
 
When he went deeper, he discovered that "Anuwe nin so" means two things. 'I love you' in Hausa and 'what a pity' in Yoruba. Yoruba is another Nigerian language embedded into his DNA, a connection point to a past he’s sometimes felt was lost. 

For Sri Kala, it's hard to physically trace back his ancestry, so to be given this gift, to reconnect with his ancestors through sound vibration, through his desire, through my calling, what a blessing.

A reminder that nothing is ever lost and a testament to the power of surrender.

How Did The Song

I’ve been holding on to something that isn’t real
couldn’t be lost, couldn’t be found
i’ve been wondering how long i could bear to feel
stuck in the sound, between the sky and the ground
hovering in suspension
i disappear
everything i’ve come to know
surrendered
and offered to the records 
of remembering

this longing is such a crucible
of wandering among the half dead and half hearted
I don’t have much more to give and truth be told 
i’m not sure that I ever did

but in the spark i saw the art of a memory
making its way down the halls of my darkest dreams
there were portraits on the walls of the lovers i had lost
in the fires of a dawning that couldn’t come soon enough

and maybe i had it wrong, the pictures in my mind
so many shapes and so many faces
every time i chase the song, what do i find
pleasures untasted, moments i wasted
wandering the realms of regret
you disappear

Hip-notic urban World beat  roots fusion
with Maternal Soul.... from the 2013 Album, Purify.  This song is about my love for the southwest desert, where I lived for years.  There are strong djembe rhythms and solos, I am freestyling vocals overtop, and there is some sweet elec. tamboura throughout to give it a real word music fusion feel.  Back up vocals feature Diane Patterson.
