Maryliz Smith’s music is evocative, contemplative, and intimate. Coming out of a virtuosic, classical tradition as a concert organist, her signature sound is one of post-minimalism, using both acoustic and electroacoustic keyboards to draw listeners into a complexity of emotions.

She is inspired by relational experiences, focusing on single moments that can change the trajectory of a life, of a living system, of a culture. She takes these experiences and translates them into the musical language, a language she describes as her first.

She is inspired by composers who sculpt sound with silence, and who continue this lineage with their unique artistry and innovation. She believes that the world needs music more than ever, music that both invites moments of reflection as well as sustenance for living in liminal space and time.
