This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show welcomes @truepanther Records, a New York City-based label, founded in 2004 by Dean Bein and a group of friends.
 
One of True Panther Records’ earliest successes was the self-titled debut album from San Francisco band Girls, released in 2009. Over the last decade, the label has grown to represent a diverse range of sounds, spanning hip hop, indie, experimental electronic, and world music. Its roster includes Barcelona dance act Delorean, LA post-pop artist @glasser-1, and UK rapper @slowthai, as well as London singer-songwriter @king-krule – whose tracks recently featured in Carhartt WIP’s full length skate film Inside Out.
 
For this edition of Carhartt WIP Radio, Dean Bein put together a mix which drifts through dance pop, acoustic, breakbeat, and baile funk, featuring the sounds of artists like @teengirlfantasy, @kelseylu and ABRA(@darkwaveduchess). In addition to including some of True Panther’s more well-known tracks, Bein dug into the label’s archives in search of rare remixes and unreleased edits. Accompanying the show is an interview with Dean Bein, who discusses the medieval origins of True Panther’s name, the influence that New York City has had on the label, and the common language among music fans. www.carhartt-wip.com/journal/music

Fourth album for the well established Strata-Gemma project by producer Billy Bogus who, this time, joins forces with long-time friend MA Spaventi to create a project experimental under every aspect. 
Ristoranti Innovativi speaks to us - same as a film would - about an idea of consumption so exasperated to become obsolete, in the general amniotic unawareness. From this awareness restless scenarios arise, as in the opening track Bath Exotico but also classy as in the nu-jazz of Oliver Stoned. Vaporous Africanisms intertwine in the rhythmic jungles of Pintus and Witch Doctor and glide over the jazzy downtempo of Diorama and the atmospheric electronics of Giardino d'Inverno. Ristoranti Innovativi is an album of chiaroscuro that mix jazz and electronic rhythms, to show us that mental and emotional process can synch our moods - through music - with an often indecipherable present. 

Strata-Gemma are Niccolò Bruni AKA Billy Bogus on composition and arrangement, Luca Cacciatore on winds and Andrea Moretti on double bass. The band boasts regular appearances on the renowned radio broadcasts of Gilles Peterson and Raffaele Costantino AKA DJ Khalab as well as having performed at the Giant Steps and Brilliant Corner in London, venues devoted to nu-jazz and post club sounds. 

MA Spaventi is a sound engineer and producer who has collaborated with an incredible number of artists and labels, making his synthesizers playground available for music ranging from electronic and ambient to house and Italo disco. 

This collaboration was born from a strong friendship and it’s based on an insatiable desire to experiment with genres and feelings.
