Our Friday’s guest is Andrey Nikonorov aka Moonoton. A very busy resident of @popoffkitchen (we’re taking the opportunity to congratulate them for the nomination on Dazed) and over the past 10 years he has been leading his continuous musical voyage, performing in Moscow and St. Petersburg. It remains a mystery how Andrey found free time in his busy schedule to make a mix for us, but we'd like to thank him for that!

Квир-рейв-утопия Raumtester — оммаж «Пиратскому телевидению», экспериментальному видеопроекту, придуманному петербургскими художниками круга Тимура Новикова на излете 1980-х. 

«Охренеть!» — слово, которое постоянно крутилось в моей голове во время просмотра «Пиратского телевидения» (ПТВ): настолько увиденное было опережающим время и настолько прогрессивным. На фоне различных сюжетов играет самая передовая музыка тех лет: транс, прогрессив-хаус, техно — и все это в Советском Союзе.

Визуальные образы программы, ее саундтрек, появление в кадре бессменного ведущего Владислава Мамышев-Монро (главного, на мой взгляд, автора среди немногих квир-артистов на отечественной художественной сцене) перенесли меня на какой-то воображаемый квир-техно-рейв. Поэтому я тщательно изучил электронную танцевальную музыку конца перестройки и начала 1990-х и записал микс из треков советских и российских музыкантов, являвшихся адептами нового звучания — пульсирующего, танцевального и раскрепощенного, а также треков зарубежных исполнителей, которые, как мне кажется, могли повлиять на это звучание. Связующим звеном стала композиция Pink Floyd — The Run: машина времени, соединяющая квир-рейв-утопию с последним треком моего собственного сочинения. Я старался показать, как опыт предшественников может быть переосмыслен в новой реальности. Кроме того, я использовал аудиофрагменты передач ПТВ и резко сводил треки, чтобы при прослушивании появлялось ощущение телепросмотра, когда переключаешь каналы в предвкушении того, что же будет дальше.

Я считаю, что мы порой недооцениваем значение культуры в политических изменениях. Я думаю, что революцию совершили не политические деятели, а именно та культура, в том числе музыкальная, которая поменяла вектор мышления общества. Вопрос открытый — способна ли наша современная культура что-то изменить?

And now we have Sergey, a business-class taxi driver whose car radio is always playing Monte Carlo. While drinking with us, he spoke of more inspiring times, when he used to pick up rides in his old Lada 2107, and of his favourite spot on Solanka Street to pick up clientele. He told us how they who had just been so cheerful out in public or in a nightclub suddenly, when getting in the car, seemed to their spark. Most often their reflection in his review mirror showed pure sadness. It was for those clients that he produced this mixtape.
