Vor 25 Jahren haben das Kraftfeld, das Gaswerk und das Salzhaus ihre Tore geöffnet. Wie war das damals als das Albani auf einmal nicht mehr der einzige Musikclub in der Stadt war?

Für diese Folge reden wir mit Gründungsmitgliedern der drei Clubs und schauen zurück auf die turbulenten Anfangszeiten.

Folge 6: 25 Jahre Gaswerk, Kraftfeld und Salzhaus

Julien Delfaud was a shadow actor at the time when house music exploded in France.

Trained at the PlusXXX school as an assistant to Philippe Zdar (of the mythical duo Cassius) at the end of the 1990s, he collaborated with Etienne de Crécy on the Super Discount project, as well as with Phoenix, before establishing himself as a renowned producer and engineer.

Julien Delfaud comes out of the shadows with I Hear Disorder, a project inspired by the Dance Mania label, the ultimate Chicagoan house reference (Paul Johnson, Lil' Louis, Jesse Saunders).

A first EP of a series of 4, whose only function is to turn the dancefloors upside down.

Capping off a successful year, Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Circle of Life and ZAC to the label for a special two track showcase. No stranger to Movement Recordings is Circle of Life who returns for his sixth appearance. The Serbian artist made his label debut in 2019 with the well-received 'Black Light' EP. The next two years would see the Belgrade resident forge a strong bond with the label, delivering three originals and two remixes across four excellent releases, while also landing projects for top tier imprints such as Beat Boutique, Beatfreak, Siona Records, Sprout and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Meanwhile, making his label debut is Brazilian talent ZAC. The Santa Catarina resident has enjoyed immense success over the course of his fourteen-year career. ZAC's well-kept discography is highlighted by releases for Einmusika, Eklektisch, Freegrant Music and Warung Recordings. Now collaborating for the first time, Circle of Life and ZAC join forces for their much-anticipated double A-side vehicle 'Kosmos / New Moon'.

Beginning with 'Kosmos', Circle of Life and ZAC demonstrate just how strong their creative synergy is. Led by a robust groove, pulsating rhythms and astral stabs, its ethereal nature captivates from the outset. Dark and cavernous across the first act, a dramatic sensibility rises as flickering sonics and arcane overlays blanket the electric groove. Stripping down into the second of two breaks a more emotive sensibility rises, as luminous tonal themes provide a warm glow amidst a haze of colour and harmony, eventually giving way to a flurry of drums as the energetic groove drops for a spirited finale.

Bogota’s Kaputt club offshoot, Kaputt.wav announces ‘Kaputt.wav Vol. III - The Bonfire’ featuring Iñigo Vontier, Theus Mago, Mytron and more.

Boasting a range of local talent such as ‘Calypso Records’ label boss Iñigo Vontier, ‘Duro’ co-founder Theus Mago and ‘Hard Fist Records’ head honcho Tushen Raï and Neskeh, ‘The Bonfire’ serves up a plethora of unique music rooted in the darker realms of disco and electro.

Iñigo Vontier sets the tone with a glitched out, mind-bending cut in ‘Prado’. Alejandro Paz, Nuclear Digital Transistor & Kabinett explore the musical spectrum further with the percussive, punchy ‘Monolito’, while Tushen Raï & Neskeh’s ‘Tsé Tsé’ and Mytron’s ‘Más Ramas’ blur the line between techno, disco and electro.

Drifting from the psychedelic, tripped out sounds of Scadta & The Virginia Valley’s ‘The Sky Is Empty’ to the more energetic, sonic ‘Camina Conmigo’ from Alvaro Cabana & Julian Sanza, this melting pot of talent makes for a dynamic EP.

Kaputt.wav is the record label of Bogota’s Kaputt club, a venue at the heart of the city’s underground scene as well as playing host to occasional international DJs such as Bradley Zero and Moscoman. Musically, the label is a melting pot of discoid, electro influenced dancefloor music that, to date, has won plaudits from the likes of Sean Johnston, Terr, Jennifer Cardini and more.

Originally appearing on the 2020 album ‘For The Very Last Time’, Irish-Iranian musician Glassio’s ‘Summertime (Kept the Blues Away)’, a sun-soaked slice of indie pop, receives the remix treatment on toucan sounds. The release sees Glassio revisit his track alongside a remix from label boss Robert PM, dropping ahead of their New Years Eve party at Mercury Lounge in New York City, which features Glassio and French Horn Rebellion on the lineup. Flipping ‘Summertime (Kept the Blues Away)’ into a deep and driving cut, Robert PM introduces a 4/4 pattern, fluttering arps, and resonant low-end into the mix, making for a dynamic and engaging listen from start to finish. Following this is Glassio’s own ‘Italo Mix’, with lively claps, heavy-hitting disco toms, and a chugging bassline making way for classic Italo-disco tropes. The Plastik People label is a great repository for deep house that is timeless but never tired. Katermurr is next up to prove that point with an EP that transcends the ages. It opens with a lovely throwback Chicago vocal over fresh modern drums. After 'Wanna Be With You' gets you going, 'Let's Dance' brings the party vibes with some busy lead melodies that will get hands in the air old school style. 'Donny' then keeps it deep with some languid grooves and a nice smoky soulful vocal drifting above. Last of all is the more bumping and dusty drums of 'Show Some Love' to close out a classic EP.
