It's a form of expression for Nathan and an escape where he can truly be himself. So far his portfolio stretches from playing sets at some of the biggest dance music clubs in Brisbane to running his own events. Watch this space because big things are coming.

Maffick’s Mixology - Ch XVI: Salty Cucumbers feat. pickles

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to Ch XVII of Maffick’s Mixology! You shall be entertained with a 20min mix from myself and a 30min guest mix from the wonderful Toúshay! At the end we’ll chat all things music and banter whilst we get an insight into Toúshay’s musical journey. 


-- Artist Scope w Toúshay –

Toúshay, formally known as Shaydi-Jay is a young Australian DJ who can satisfy any crowd from poolside parties, rooftop bars or the late-night club scene. Her vibe is uplifting, infectious and energetic from her sunset Funky-Disco/house grooves to underground TechHouse sounds. 

From a young age, she was influenced by the dance music scene with a special interest in Progressive, Electronic and Deep House music heavily influenced by artists such as Eric Prydz, Deadmau5, Axwell and Steve Angello. It’s no surprise that Toúshay loves music after taking 2014 to follow House and Electronic music around the world festival hopping from the likes Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival, falling in love with Ibiza where she realised she wanted to spend the rest of her life surrounded by the uplifting music scene. 

This was a nice taste of the industry for this rising star who was motivated to move forward. In 2018, she acquired three local residencies at an exclusive high-end bar/lounge, Beach Club hosting a weekly pool parting and weekly radio show on the Gold Coasts number one radio station Radio Metro playing House and Tech House. These opportunities opened several other doors for this artist who was eager to get as much exposure as possible in the local House scene. She began Djing regular parties for the Radio Metro super yacht, playing local club sets at the likes of Prohibition and Capulet in Brisbane and supported Camp Paprika at her first festival Bohemian BeatFreaks. 

The future is red hot for this young DJ who has recently relocated back to Australia after spending the summer of 2019 living in Holland studying electronic music production and keeping busy residencies in Amsterdam as well as playing clubs in Scotland, Mallorca, Ibiza and with the global journey Tomorrowland team. Toúshay is working hard behind the scenes on some jackin’ tech house releases in which she aims to make her mark on the industry. She is young, fierce, passionate and an all-round crowd pleaser and the best is yet to come!

Since then she has always been at the forefront of new music & proved herself as a versatile DJ between the genres of bass, tech house, & electro

Holding multiple residences over the past few years at Oh hello & The Family whilst backing it up with some large interstate gigs, Caity’s music & style continues to evolve with influence as she is influenced by her musical experiences and strives to transmit the same energy in her sets. After a long history as a promoter at The Met Brisbane, i was exposed to a new love of mine all those years ago. House music. 2 years later, this is where I'm at. I've had the pleasure to play in many great venues including the likes of No Cheese, The Royal Hotel Goondiwindi and The Met aswell as a residency at Sundays at Stockies. Had a lot of fun recording this one and can't thank Maffick enough for a feature on this ever-evolving mix series. All support is appreciated as per usual, this is some of my best work. Mason Maffick is an Australian-Italian Tech House / House music DJ & Producer based in Brisbane, Australia. The Maffick strives to deliver high-energy, enthralling DJ sets comprised of rolling basslines and thumping kicks, delivered in perfect sequence, lifting audiences on their feet. Alongside this is his ability to slow down the vibe whilst maintain the high tempo, giving fans the right amount of euphoria to make every set memorable…”I want audiences to remember the set, how they felt, the emotional rollercoaster they embarked on, and most importantly, how happy and in the moment they were”. 

Having come from a drumming background in his teens, the Maffick quickly adapted his skill set to the decks after making his full progression into the EDM scene mid 2017. After only 3 months of bedroom practice, he made his club debut at The Met Brisbane in December that year. Now, only 2 years later, he holds multiple residencies, including Sub Rosa, Kenjin & Su Casa, and has played a variety of clubs across Brisbane and Gold Coast. Across his short span in the scene, Mason Maffick has supported the likes of Kolsch, Mark Knight, Huxley,  Taleena, Lowdown and Jordan Burns.

Mason’s persona is known throughout the local scene as a ‘Lover of all things music and banter whilst well known for his enthusiasm to celebrate’. The ‘Maffick’ encapsulates the ability to party strong through the night and show up bright-eyed for work the next day. “I didn’t call myself ‘Maffick’ for nothing! If you find out its meaning, you’ll be in on the inside joke”. Meaning is, of course, a pivotal force driving Mason’s musical journey. He firmly believes in his songs ‘creating a storey or journey, and having a climax that either satisfies a hole needing to be filled, or giving a pure adrenaline rush’ and quotes “To me, music is the language of the soul, it’s the voice between words or even emotions. Those things you can’t say…a song can create that feeling for you instantly.” 

Whilst it is hard to define a single musical influence, Mason attributes his style to a blend of 70’s rock (especially Led Zeppelin) and disco, 80/90’s pop and dance, 2000’s golden EDM days, and modern day house and tech house artists to create an unparalleled, unique sound.

Amongst his days DJing and producing, the Maffick also finds himself a Bachelor of Education (majoring in senior mathematics and physics), running his own tuition business and playing in state level touch football/TRL comps (as well as nationally with his previous University). He also derives his creative inspiration to his love of the sciences and philosophy. “I have these two personalities, the creative and avant-garde side where I explore the boundaries of what’s normal, or what goes together. Then it’s complimented by my analytical, calculated, logical side. This is where I piece my creations into a recognisable form of auditory pleasure, both live in performances and in my tracks”.
