The always unpredictable and wildly creative Riva Starr returns to Saved Records for the second installment of his Raw Edits EP. Once again delving into an eclectic soundscape that references a plethora of genres, styles and tempos, Riva highlights why is the master of the edit yet again.

First up, Riva settles into addictive dubby atmospheres whilst splicing together the gospel vocals of Roland Clark’s ‘President House’ with the energetic groove of Sante Sansone’s ‘Groove Vibration.’ Thick swabs of bass pulsate between jackin’ beats which build and build throughout the track, mirroring the escalation of the impassioned vocals that bellow out over the top.

Setting off to work on Alex Under’s ‘Hacer La Compra’ Riva gives a demonstration on the workings of nailing a subtle edit.  Staying true to the original, he keeps things relatively stripped back to begin with, allowing jangling synths to flutter over fluid bass and quick percussion. That sense of swinging funk is then opened up by brilliant use of distorted FX, woozing keys and syncopating electronics.

With his edit of Gene Farris’ ‘Welcome To Chicago’ and Ron Costa’s remix of Miguel Bastida’s ‘Ketanima’ Rivaa digs into deep, dubby textures reminiscent of the heyday of Chicago house. Built around warm pads, melodic synths and surges of deep bass, the track has a laidback vibe but powered by a distinctly underground momentum.

Max Chapman burst onto the scene less than three years ago with a string of quality releases on highly respected imprints such as Elrow, Snatch, Viva and Lost. With a huge overall Beatport #1 under his belt last year in 'Body Jack', 2017 is shaping up to be his biggest, most successful year to date - and this EP is seriously large.

He locks horns with up and coming maestro George Smeddles here for a 2 tracker that ticks all the boxes for a solid underground cut. The lead track, 'Zulu', is a peak-time tech houser with ridiculous grooves, plenty of energy and THAT tribal vocal hook on the drop that everyone will be singing back to you upon it's release. The B-side 'Charger' slows things down a little and adds some sexy, bumpy grooves to proceedings making this a perfect, and flawlessly produced EP.

Hot Creations gear up to drop the eagerly anticipated House & Pressure from hot property Route 94. Echoing the excitement that surrounded his No.1 hit My Love, which shot him to stardom, the record has been in serious demand for months. Now finally ready for release he showcases his versatile skills as a producer over three heavy-weight tracks.

Rowan Jones aka Route 94 explains how he wanted to “put out three tracks that were diverse yet definitive.” Title track House & Pressure packs a real punch and contains the vocals from Joey Negro's classic Ride the Storm featuring Linda Clifford. The dominant female vocal on ‘House & Pressure’ combined with the force of the drum machines is a traditional element that people connect to the Route 94 productions. With ‘Crazy Bitch’ it’s a more of a big room sound, incorporating ghetto elements. ‘Dark Keyless’ is the complete opposite, creating a groove that aims to grab the crowd and let them loose.

This year has seen a succession of big releases and remixes from Route 94 that cement his place amongst the dance music elite including the recent hit Mind, Body & Soul on Crosstown Rebels. The talented producer first saw fame reaching No.1 in the UK charts with My Love featuring Jess Glynne. Keen to remain on the underground scene, he followed with releases and remixes on Leftroom, Defected and Hot Creations. Overwhelming success followed as he performed at the likes of fabric, Sub Club, Space, Ushuaia, DC10 and many more. With a wealth of new material still on the way and a hectic touring schedule in place, it’s clear this is only the start for the young artist.
