Via a trio of critically releases for the CPU label (two EPs and an album), Sheffield born Evan Majumdar-Swift, AKA 96 Back, delivers an eclectic EP for Hypercolour.

Leaning on, but by no means restricting himself, to the bleep roots of the Steel City, the ‘TBQFH’ EP assembles four highly accomplished tracks of head scrambling and fearless electronics.  From the beat science of ‘Fe Symbolic’ to the widescreen sound palette at play in ‘Party Animal’, 96 Back flaunts a distinctive and bold dexterity.

The name of the EP comes from the fact that this EP is made up of tracks from three of our resident DJs, CHARLI, Ocuin and Realm. Our nights aim to showcase a love of varying sounds, as is the case with our label, Spilt Milk. 

A bit more about each of the tracks - CHARLI’s 'Toska' harks back to the halcyon days of peak Anjunadeep, dreamy deep house delivered with deftness. A vocal sample from Camilla Cabello is used to fine effect and is supported by wistful minor chords which carry an enveloping arpeggio to its gradual resting place. Here we find another beautiful motif, all sunsets and palm trees, underpinned by Charli's penchant for broken beats.


Taking you straight to the stratosphere with crisp, echoed percussion ornamented with spacedust, Ocuin’s ‘Gucci Piggies’ develops into a strong groove with a weaving bassline that ducks in and then out again. Punchy kicks and shimmering synths pay homage to Ocuin's early love of trance, with the great 'Xpander' making its presence known.


Realm is fast establishing a signature sound, and ‘Cala’ is further evidence of what he is about. Syncopated percussion with biting snares and a thumping kick underpin an ominous bassline, painting a dark vista that slowly creeps upward toward a crescendo. An undulating arpeggio cracks the darkness, shining through as a beacon, walking proud as it refuses to be swallowed up in the rhythmic cacophony.

Bristol based DJ and producer, as well as the co-founder of warehouse party INDECENCY. He is a resident for AAJA radio and DIY techno events brand Strictly Yes. He’s played alongside the likes of VTSS, Midland, and Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, to name a few.
