Podcast Series #005 - Ømen [Birthday Special]

To celebrate my incoming birthday, I present you with my latest podcast, which is the fifth mix that forms part of my channel's series. This mix was inspired by my recent closing set at MASS' event in London featuring D.A.V.E. The Drummer and a fantastic array of artists from the scene. Expect an eclectic rollercoaster journey with an emphasis on energy, drive, emotion, and some personal inspiration. The mix consists of various musical subgenres of the techno scene, including the likes of hard techno, Schranz, hard groove, industrial techno, hardcore techno, acid, and trance-infused tracks, and my insistence on melancholic melodies. Ømen is a producer & DJ, co-founder & resident at the London-based techno label & event MASS With a passion for the darker shades of techno, rave music, & its various sub-genres; his sound tends to depict a raw & aggressive undertone while contrasting this with melodies & a melancholic feel. While his musical influences span across a range of different genres & cultural influences, he often incorporates hard kicks with driving acid basslines, rave-infused stabs, rhythmic chanting, & various industrial percussive elements.

For this occasion, we are excited to share with you a recording of Aldanya's live set at MASS back in April 2023. Aldanya has established herself as a prominent versatile techno artist and continues to impress by unleashing full-power female energy performances. Her vision encompasses the concepts of freedom and liberation. In a world governed by imperialism, she transcends the ideologies of standardisation and “fitting in a box”. Delving into the abundant musical varieties over time, she channels her own vision into captivating and elevating sets.

As a mainstay behind the decks, she guides the dancefloor with high-impact, high-energy techno grooves. She doesn’t limit herself to one style and combines techno in its multiple textures.

Staying true to herself, she doesn’t follow trends but rather continuously renews and refines herself as an artist by pushing her own limits and exploring new musical patterns.

Her distinctive approach, yet with a pure and passionate mindset, has led her to dominate the dancefloor of institutions such as Fabric, and other established London clubs such as Egg, The Steelyard, Village Underground, Electrowerkz, Cell 200 and Werkhaus - to name just a few.

After releasing her first track in 2021 on Fluctuat records' VA RAVE 4 WOMEN, she is preparing new releases.

SlugoS nasceu em 1989 em Madrid, Espanha. Aos 16 anos começou a se interessar por música eletrônica. Com o tempo, ele se viu profundamente ligado ao Techno, mais particularmente, com vertentes mais dark e pesadas deste estilo.
Não demorou muito até que ele começou a se dedicar à produção e mixagem. Um dos seus seus primeiros shows foram no famoso Fabrik Club em Madrid. Desde então, ele se apresentou em clubes e festivais por toda a Europa e América do Sul.
Como produtor trabalha sem parar desde o início da carreira e hoje você pode encontrar suas faixas em sets de Techno, bem como mixagens deHardTechno/Schranz. Selos importantes como Corte Sagrada, Soma Quality Recordings, Cannibal Society, Gomboc Records, Opera 2000 entre outros, lançaram faixas do SlugoS.
Hoje em dia seu som se tornou mais industrial, mental e opressivo. Recuperando o clima das raízes do hard techno, mas mantendo uma visão vanguardista em seus sets e produções. Tudo isso se reflete em seu mais recente projeto, uma gravadora de vinil chamada CAEDITE EOS.

SlugoS was born in 1989 in Madrid, Spain. At the age of 16, he started to be interested in electronic music. With time, he found himself deeply connected with Techno, more particularly, with the darkest and hard branches of this style.
It didn't take long until he started to push himself into production and mixing. One of his first gigs was at the famous Fabrik Club in Madrid. Since then, he has performed in clubs
and festivals all over Europe and South America.
As a producer, he has been working non-stop since the beginning of his career and today you can find his tracks in Techno sets as well as HardTechno/Schranz mixes. Labels like Sacred Court, Soma Quality Recordings, Cannibal Society, Gomboc Records, Opera 2000 among others, have released SlugoS tracks.
Nowadays his sound turned more industrial, mental and oppressive. Taking back the mood of the hard techno roots but keeping a vanguardist view in his sets and productions. All this is reflected in his latest project, a vinyl record label called CAEDITE EOS.

Noneoftheabove is a DJ and Producer hailing from Rotterdam, Netherlands. He has been crafting techno since his mid-teens, but it wasn't until 2015 that he made his debut under the moniker "Noneoftheabove." He is known for championing what he calls "Straightforward techno," which he melds with an industrial edge. A significant wellspring of inspiration for him is schranz, an uncompromising style of techno that originated in Germany during the early 90s. For Noneoftheabove, electronic music is a tool for pushing boundaries, and he constantly strives to pioneer innovative approaches, not only in the studio but also in his role as a DJ.

He holds the art of getting people to dance in high regard, and as an experienced artist, he adeptly handles festival and club venues worldwide. He infuses his sets with the same raw energy that defines his own productions. In 2016, he established TheAbove Records, a platform designed to showcase his unique vision of electronic music. The label focuses on finely curated tracks that transcend traditional genre boundaries, sharing the same rugged, machine-driven, and infectious techno sound that he holds dear.

2023 marks a significant year for Noneoftheabove, as he is set to make his debut appearances at renowned events such as Awakenings, Tomorrowland, and Extrema Outdoor. He is also scheduled to participate in other large-scale gatherings like Rave Rebels, Hive Festival, and Natur One, solidifying his position as one of the promising young talents in the techno scene.

With an impressive catalog boasting over 50 releases on labels including Reinier Zonneveld, 9x9, Rebekah, and SNTS, Noneoftheabove has firmly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of electronic music.
