I didn't know what I didn't know. Is it possible I hadn't even listened to any Caetano Veloso post Domingo? ("My little grasshopper cannot fly very high"...) That I had only flown on an airplane once in my life?

This track is made entirely of a subconscious brew of Serge Gainsbourg, Air, tropicalia, Olatunji's Drums of Passion, Vampire Weekend's innocent summery enthusiasm, and perhaps a dash of Beck. Lyrics are straight out of Teach Yourself Portuguese in 30 Days. ("A feira hippy" means flea market.) I tried to rehearse this once with a band. The bass player couldn't fathom the odd-numbered bars of the intro and quit. I never attempted it again. Incidentally the bass player tried to "connect" with me the other day on LinkedIn, no doubt at the algorithm's suggestion, which I found baffling and sad.

I would love to think I sound like Clarice Lispector, who had a speech impediment that made her sound like a foreigner when she spoke in her native Portuguese.
