We are cohort members of the 2020 MassArt M.Ed Graduate Program. In these episodes, we are going to talk about our experiences as full-time artist-teachers conducting action research. During this episode we speak with Jayme Ellis.

Bio: Jayme Ellis is an elementary art teacher in a suburban Boston public school district. She received her BFA in Art Education from MassArt in 2017. Through the use of Teaching for Artistic Behavior pedagogy (TAB), her students are regarded as artists who make their own choices. Jayme returned to MassArt for her M.Ed to learn how to conduct action research about student engagement in her TAB studio.

Bio: Lindsay Geankoplis is an artist, educator, and mother. She obtained her BFA with an Art Education minor from Alfred University. From 2013-2017 she lived in Beijing, China where she taught Secondary Art at accredited international schools following the International Baccalaureate (IB), British Key Stage, and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculums. Since 2017, Lindsay has been teaching middle and high school art in Kansas. Her teaching philosophy is primarily focused on student-centered learning.

Bio: Natalia Dominguez is a first-generation Mexican-American, cisgender, artist facilitator serving over 750 young artists in Fort Worth, Texas. Her teaching philosophy “The Right to Art” advocates for equity in a marginalized neighborhood. Students are “artists in training” in their elementary TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) student-choice art studio. Natalia is the 2016-2017 Angela D. Paulos Teaching for Excellence in Visual Arts Award recipient and serves in her district’s art department in the various committees.

Bio: Sadie D’Agostino Griesmer is an artist and teacher working at a middle school in Haverhill, MA. They earned a BFA in Art Education and a minor in Art History from UMass Amherst in 2018. Their research centered on optimizing physical classroom design and how to build and support a social studio environment. Their teaching philosophy centers on education through constructivist opportunities that help students know to grow as artists and  citizens. Their studio practice ranges from drawing and painting to sculpture and ceramics.
