De succesvolle Amerikaanse disco-, soul- en funkgroep Shalamar ontstond in eerste instantie uit twee achtergronddansers van het Amerikaanse soul-TV-programma "Soultrain". Vanaf de jaren ’80 behaalden ze enorme successen met ‘Second Time Around’, ‘Night To Remember’ en ‘I Can Make You Feel Good’. Jody Watley, één van de oprichters en fashionista pur-sang, heeft na het verlaten van de groep als solo artiest bewezen een enorm hitkanon te zijn – denk maar aan de nummers ‘Looking For A New Love’ en de kraker ‘Friends’. Hall & Oates | I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)(Change Request ReVision)

For this ReVision, I took on this classic by a duo who needs no introduction. Dropped right in the middle of their seemingly endless hit factory streak, this song was the second single from their tenth studio album, 1981's Private Eyes.

Landing them their fourth number-one hit single and the second from the same album, this song was written quickly in-between recording sessions for Private Eyes. 

This song makes iconic of the fairly new Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm at the centerpiece rhythm section. The CR-78 was Roland's first microchip-based programmable drum machine. This machine this song marked the beginning of what would become the golden era of synthetic drums taking over the airwaves. 

Released in March of 1981, “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” along with Phil Collins' January 1981 single, “In The Air Tonight”—which also prominently featured the Roland CR-78—would make this first programmable machine from Roland an icon overnight. 

This song also features the state of the art Dave Smith Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, a Korg organ baseline, Fender Rhodes, and simple, but effective guitar motifs. I recreated this song with a Roland CR-78, Prophet 5, Fender Rhodes, Vox Continental Organ, and Live Bass.

On February 2nd, dance music titan Eric Prydz returned to the hallowed BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix decks, taking control of the airwaves for two hours of forward-thinking electronic music. This marked Prydz’ return to the Essential Mix show for the first time since late 2011, when it was recorded live from his set at Creamfields. The reaction to the show on Saturday was so big that it got the Essential Mix trending on Twitter on both sides of the Atlantic while it was being aired.

During this Rendez – Vous, I will offer a fresh and futuristic look at Nu-WestCoast, Jazz-Funk-Soul, and Midnight Disco, sometimes blended with some feel-good 80’s & 90’s R&B, and all carefully mixed and beatmatched with exclusive tracks, such as this very rare and Funky one from The Emotions that is the closing song, and was a 45 B-side only... That one is my tribute to Mis Pamela Hutchinson who recently passed away...
