Hamilton might seem like a relatively new name on the block to some, but this versatile and talented producer has been making electronic music for over fifteen years. Having conquered several genres and worked as an international DJ for a decade and a half, the next step in
Hamilton’s story was after sending some of his D&B tracks to Ram boss Andy C.

Signing exclusively to Ram in 2009, Hamilton has already released two huge 12”s for Frequency (Ram’s sister label) and the immense ‘Soundboy’, a track released as part of Andy C’s ‘Nightlife 5’ CD. His latest single is set to be even bigger and is a testament to Ram’s ability
to develop artists. 

With a weight of production skill and the knowledge and experience of what makes people go nuts on the dance floor, Hamilton’s tunes are engineered specifically to get the dance moving and ‘Brainstorm’ has no trouble doing that.

Leading in gently with rolling percussive elements and a gradually building atmosphere, Hamilton slowly lets the suspense grow until the ravers are eager for release. Winding bass notes and scattered drum edits are interspersed with sweeping FX and this one is a sure-fire
smasher.

Taking things on an epic and melodic tip for the flip, Hamilton shows his diversity with ‘Echoes’, a track that harks back to the golden era of drum &amp; bass and was a highlight on ‘Nightlife 5’. Like a modern day PFM, Hamilton effortlessly combines twinkling musical elements and
warm synthetic pads with crisp breakbeats and a rolling flow that’s undeniable. This one will see many a dance floor through to 4am with raised hands and smiling faces.

It's sunshine time again. The time when we need a new D&B soundtrack to score our festivals, carnivals, pool parties and barbecues. And you'd struggle to find anyone better qualified to curate that soundtrack than Technique's bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith. Just a quick glance at their immense back catalogue of anthemic releases or their packed international bookings diary is enough to demonstrate that they know exactly how to bring those summertime vibes.

Things kick off in suitably monumental fashion with a cut from the head honchos themselves, “I Need Somebody”. If you were looking out from a festival stage at a sea of excited hands in the air, this tune's searing vocal hook and unrelenting waves of bass would suit that scene perfectly. And, of course, this album contains a lethal dosage of similarly colossal tracks. For example, MaxNRG enlists a quirky vocal from Marianna to boost the hype-levels on “Headshot” and recent signing Kronology delivers the driving and euphoric “Untouchable”. Plus, there are some sizeable contributions to the big-room roll call from a few names you won't have seen on Technique before, like Oder's “Closer” and T-Phonic & Deadman's “Show Me the Way”.

But summer's not all about the shades-on daytime raving, we need some choice sunset material too for when things get a little darker. Document One and Spectrem exemplify this beautifully with the laid-back and jazzy “Falling” and the Kyphosis-laced “Fade” respectively. Helsinki's liquid maestros LAOS pass through to drop “City Lights” and “Belong”, and Tantrum Desire treats us to the effervescent “Sea Breeze”. For when things get darker still, there are tracks like the technoid, percussive world-unto-itself of Salaryman & Dark Machine's “Night Shift”. Guys like Conspire and Brian Brainstorm bring some full-on jungle, and the whole compilation is peppered with alternative sounds like Digital's dub workout “Groove Together”.

The thirty-one tracks here represent a cross-section of the mighty, multi-stranded, multi-form D&B scene and what it can do for summer 2015. There are names you'll know and names you might not know yet. There are huge mainstream anthems and shadow-bound subtleties. There are tunes for midday and tunes for four in the morning. And for four in the afternoon the next day. Ultimately, this isn't the sound of the summer, this is all the many different sounds of the summer put together on one album. So, the soundtrack's sorted, time to go out and have a summertime that's worthy of it!

Following recent D&B weapons including 1000 Days with Benny L and Lockdown with A Plus, DJ, producer and BBC Radio 1 presenter René LaVice now welcomes D&B pioneer Danny Byrd to his Device label for new collaboration Boomshaka. 

 

Built with a rather special gig in mind and then road-tested initially when the pair played back to back at the enormous EDC event in Las Vegas last year, this one was tweaked across the following months and is now ready for full release. 

 

Having amassed a loyal fanbase from all corners of the globe, René LaVice is a true D&B heavyweight. His innovative releases include the likes of Headlock and The Calling ft. Ivy Mairi whilst officially remixing for a broad spectrum of artists including Grace Carter, Diplo, DJ Fresh, Craig David and The Prodigy. 

 

Meanwhile, Danny Byrd’s endless accolades span two decades, initially being picked up by Hospital Records and remaining at the forefront of the scene ever since. 

 

Emerging from underground realms with a signature sound that combines elements of house, hip hop, rave and R&B, Danny Byrd soon dominated crossover territory when Sweet Harmony became a particular favourite on BBC Radio 1 earning Danny a wider following and international recognition. 

 

Now set to tear up the industry once more alongside René LaVice, the pair deliver Boomshaka marking the ultimate collaboration. Pairing energetic drum patterns with explosive synths and a captivating top line, Boomshaka is destined to infiltrate speakers globally.
