ريونوسكي أكوتاغاوا (1 مارس 1892 – 24 سبتمبر 1927) كاتب ياباني من فترة تايشو في عصر ميجي، أيْ بعد ربع قرن من بداية حركة التحديث والتنوير اليابانية التي بدأتْ بإعادة الساموراي مقاليدَ السلطة والحكم إلى الإمبراطور. درس أكوتاغاوا الأدب الإنجليزيّ في جامعة طوكيو الإمبراطورية، وبدأ في الكتابة والنشر وهو ما يزال طالبًا في الجامعة. سمي بـ «أبو القصة القصيرة اليابانية». بعمر الـ35 قام بالأنتحار عن طريق جرعة زائدة من الباربيتال في 24 تموز 1927. وبعد موته بثماني سنوات أطلق صديقُ عمره، الكاتبُ والناشر «كان كيكوتشي،» جائزةً أدبيّة باسمه (جائزة أكوتاغاوا)، لتصبح أشهر جائزة أدبيّة في اليابان. مجموعة قصص راشومون الأصيلة كانت أول مجموعة يصدرها ريونوسكي أكوتاغاوا في حياته وأهداها إلى روح أستاذه سوسيكي ناتسومي. ترك أكوتاغاوا ما يزيد على المئتين وخمسين عملًا، أغلبها قصص قصيرة. وتُعتبر أعماله قمّة الأعمال الأدبية اليابانية التي كُتبتْ في بدايات القرن العشرين والتي لا يزال لها بريقها ورونقها حتى الآن.
