SQL is known for his warm yet energetic productions and live sets throughout the globe. This new EP is an absolutely rock solid four tracker with everything from happy summer warmth to smooth techno.

First up is Surrender. This could be one of the happiest, sunniest yet powerful tracks you’ll hear this summer! The chords, which open up beautifully in the break, are so optimistic and warm they could be prescribed as an anti-depressant. The groove on the other hand driven by über funky snares, claps and rattling high hats will make you want to take that new found optimism and pretend like Monday doesn’t exist!
 
‘Collect’ is a hypnotic groover with lots of energy and funk. With ever changing and evolving ambient noises in the background and a punishing chord bleep, this track has an almost sinister feel to it. As though you might be punished if you don’t rip up the floor.

‘Reveal’ is best used to end a warm summer day on an outside dance floor with your eyes closed. Grooving to the spacey synths and driving percussion. Be sure to have this one handy when the sun sets! Kassey Voorn rocks the EP with a more pumping approach with his remix focussing on a phat kick and bass line but with a melodic breakdown to catch your breath.

First released in 2007, Livio & Roby’s VIVa MUSiC debut “Ananda/Drumatik” [VIVA005] was met with critical acclaim from Mixmag and widespread support from the scene. 
The success of this EP and 2008’s “Speranta” LP [VIVA013] helped to spread Romanian duo’s unique musical blueprint throughout Europe, releasing their modern twist on house & techno on respected labels including Desolat, Moon Harbour, Cecille and Saved. 

Ananda’s dramatic vibes and deep grooves proved particularly popular with DJs and tastemakers, and was lauded as “a lush late-night workout that can sit comfortably early, mid or late set”. 

Recognised by many as their “home imprint”, Livio & Roby make a strong return to VIVa MUSiC with a slick 2014 Reinterpretation of the track, fresh and updated for the modern dancefloor. 

The package is completed with stellar remixes from Luca Bacchetti and Cesar Merveille. 

Luca’s “Endless Remix” is enchanting from start to finish - with soaring sweeps emotively interweaving with a driving and powerful groove, this is a truly exceptional piece of production. 
Cesar takes Ananda in a different direction, combining precise percussive elements and hypnotic synth runs to create a rolling yet relaxed vibe.

Oliver Huntemann's beloved globetrotting mix series PLAY! is set to touch down for its highly- anticipated fifth edition in Vienna. Having journeyed through four of the world's best nightclubs on four continents, PLAY! 05 is the most recent glimpse into Oliver's DJ mindset: the tracks he's playing, the stories he's telling, the journey he is undertaking, and the ever important relationship he has with the dancefloor.
The PLAY! series has provided Oliver Huntemann a unique platform – allowing him to showcase the tight, nuanced techno and tech-house that he’s pioneered over the last two decades. Following the highly effective format of live recording Oliver performing at some of the most iconic clubs in the greatest cities of the world, all PLAY! editions also include a little something extra: a track created exclusively for the compilation, and named for the city the mix is recorded in.
The A-side "Schnitzel" is a deeper darker shade of the classic Huntemann sound, with long synth trails and inky tones, perfect for diving deep into the after hours, while the closing track of PLAY! 05's first half, "Vienna" takes the flip side stage on this two-track EP. With its chant-along robotic vocals of "Freak Out / Exhale", and subtly minimalist tech house tempo, it is an example of a master slowly building towards a peak.

Oliver Huntemann - Vienna

As an artist with already a lot of very successful material to his name, Rodriguez Jr.’s debut album Bittersweet is a highly anticipated release. There are in fact many reasons why people should hold their breath for it - an impressive 11 track body of work that features some of the well renowned and loved Rodriguez Jr. sonic traits, as well as a lot of new and previously unchartered musical ground. It simultaneously presents techno, atmospheric dub, hypnotic, melancholy and hands down hedonistic music, and with a focus on exploring textures and moods, there is something here for everyone to get lost in.

Rodriguez Jr., aka Oliver Mateu, was originally introduced to music through radio in the south of France, where he closely followed a selection of 80s bands, as well as forming a strong love for synthesizers. It wasn’t long before he was inspired to start his own group with partner Giles Escoffier ‘The Youngsters’, which quickly signed to Laurent Garnier’s F-Communications, taking them to some of the biggest clubs and festivals around the world. After great success, the project was put on hold and over the last five years Mateu has been given the space to focus more on his solo work and finally the opportunity to create an album.

In spite of his French origins, both Olivier Mateu's artist name and productions lean more towards his father's Spanish roots, with a Mediterranean warmth and party atmosphere often coming to the fore. Bittersweet, however, embodies influences from all over the world. Inspired during recent trips to Japan, Canada and Europe, the voyaging Rodriguez Jr. accompanied by his laptop lay down ideas in hotel rooms after playing in clubs and absorbed the different environments around him into his work. With each country creating a new experience, his touring has played a big part in the variety of tracks that are presented here.

Whilst the spice of Bittersweet was captivated in far away places, the main body of the production of the album was carried out in Mateu’s hidden away studio in Belgium, filled with many loved pieces of analogue gear and synthesizers. Ranging from the Roland TR909, for a classic house drum feel, to the Korg MS10 for dirtier sounds, and a selection of Roland keyboards to choose from, “I am definitely a synth fetishist! Ahaha!” (Rodriguez Jr.). Each has contributed in Rodriguez Jr.’s quest to create an artistic project of the highest quality and creativity that he is capable of, with outstanding results. He has also drawn on the creative input of two musicians who are featured in two of the tracks – And.Id playing his trumpet and Cari Golden’s vocals.

A masterpiece that truly reflects the Rodriguez Jr. of today, it also offers us enough variety and surprise to keep us inspired by this ever-evolving artist. Reflecting on the tracks Bittersweet refers to the contradictory forces at play within the music – it may be beautiful and it may be sweet – but be careful of the party animal it can unleash both in the creator and within all of you present on the dancefloor!

On his debut solo LP ‘Utility’, Barker [@voltek] turns his focus toward melding experimentation and dancefloor pragmatism with the psychology behind the musical decision making process.

‘Utility’ is a playful but non-ironic musical approach to a whole spectrum of utilitarian and transhumanist ideas: from models for quantifying pleasure and “gradients of bliss” to abolishing suffering for sentient beings (not just people) through the ethical use of drugs and nanotechnology. Over nine tracks, Barker’s vision ebbs and flows through waves of deeply psychedelic musical vignettes; free-floating and futuristic melodies and rhythms as targeted brain stimulation.
