"I was told that, when you come back from Burning Man, you often annoy everyone around you because all you do is talk about Burning Man. It's pretty true.

It's not like other music festivals. It encompasses so much more. The music is part of the larger picture of self-expression, through the art, through the cameraderie, through the heat and dust, through lack of clothing, through leaving no trace behind.

While it is fresh in my memory, I've tried to capture that vibe in this guest mix for Klangwelt. 

The tracks are mostly fresh but also reach back almost as far as the inception of Burning Man. The mood gradually builds like a day on the Playa, from cool sunrise, to baking heat, to electric night. I heard many of these tracks out in the desert, either dancing at the Trash Fence at sunrise, or at the impressive Artcars, or in line to get my disco bike repaired.

I hope you enjoy the journey."

Following on from his Anjunadeep Explorations debut last summer, emerging German DJ/producer Ben Böhmer returns to the label for his first solo outing with a trio of melodic weapons on ‘Morning Falls EP’. The EP opens with the rolling melodies of ‘Morning Falls’ before drifting into peak time club cut ‘After Earth’. Böhmer rounds off the EP with the laid back grooves of ‘Velvet Rebellion’ which also features his friend and frequent collaborator Wood.

Very seldom do you come across a group of musicians who are so in tune with one another that the music they yield is nothing short of heaven sent. Art for the sake of art; adventure for the sake of the journey. I am, of course, talking about Brooklyn-based hybrid digital/analog electroacoustic piano trio @SontagShogun. The trio consists of Ian Temple on piano, Jeremy Young on tapes, oscillators, and piezo mics, and Jesse Perlstein on vocals, manipulations, and field recordings. Together, they work in tandem to construct live —sometimes improvisational, sometimes planned— analog soundscapes that incorporate beautifully artistic visual backdrops. They focus primarily on the textures of their sounds of field recordings and synthesized material to bring listeners to completely different worlds, dimensions, and times.

I had a chance to catch them for one of their live performances in their hometown of Brooklyn, NY. It’s one thing to experience their extensive catalog of music videos, recorded compositions, and live video performances in the comfort of your home, car, or office… and a completely different thing to be there, immersed within their sonic vessel cruising along a highway of auditory textures you can see and feel even more than you can hear. It seemed criminal not to reach out to get them involved in our Guest Mix series. What arrived is simply and beautifully stunning; yet another meticulously crafted work of art from the trio.

Sontag Shogun call it A Shimmering Fog the Color of a Highway, an in-depth exploration into what they call lullanoise, and it’s filled with old world music and samples built around the Fluxus radio pieces from “cassette magazines” of the 1980s. In our interview, the band discusses their love of radio, the life that musical experimentation gives to both the composer and listener, the pitfalls of modern electronic music, bringing scent and sound together, and so much more. Their insight and experience with the subversively popular world of experimental, downtempo, and ambient music can teach us all incredibly valuable lessons regardless of our respective medium, method, or discipline with which we compose.

Tokyo's Yunosuke Senoo aka Lycoriscoris presents ‘Flight’, his first album released via acclaimed UK label Anjunadeep. In recent years Lycoriscoris has developed a reputation as one of Japan’s most exciting young producers, releasing two albums on local indie label Moph Records and performing live alongside acts like The Field and Mortiz Von Oswald at Tokyo’s legendary Dommune.

With influences ranging from the dreamy soundscapes of Boards Of Canada, to the jazzy glitch of Shigeto, Senoo's subtle fusion of organic melodies and futuristic electronic production has won support from the likes of DJ Koze and Michael Mayer, who released his ’Transient EP' on Kompakt sub-label KX in 2015. Senoo made his debut on Anjunadeep in 2016, contributing a track to the iTunes #1 Dance Album ‘Anjunadeep 08’, before following up with the 6-track 'Drop EP' in 2017 which has since notched up 1 million streams.

Over its 8 tracks, ‘Flight’ sees Lycoriscoris explore the full range of his emotional melodic sound. From the intricate textures of ‘Kite’ and orchestral groove of lead single ‘Flight’, to the haunting ambience of ‘Far’ and dramatic crescendo of ‘Stella’, Senoo weaves together a spellbinding tapestry of detailed soundscapes and lush electronica. Senoo also provides imagery for his cinematic sounds, with the album artwork and music video for ‘Flight’ comprised of imagery shot by the artist himself in his native Japan.

‘Flight’ is the latest in a string of notable artist albums released on leading electronic label Anjunadeep, following on from Moon Boots’ debut LP ‘First Landing’ which topped the KCRW album chart and picked up over 50 BBC Radio plays, Cubicolor’s ‘Brainsugar’ which has amassed 32 million streams, and ‘Tuesday Maybe’, the sixth album from legendary duo Way Out West which topped the UK Dance Album chart.

‘Flight’ is set for release digitally and on vinyl on Friday 25th May 2018 via Anjunadeep.
